Are there any legit companies out there? Just got my annual report and there are multiple errors. The worst is showing me living in TX. Never lived there. As close as I got was going through IAH for a layover.
Reading those things are a pain. I would pay for someone to just help me decode the entire mess.
My credit is good but it could be way better if I can figure how to read and dipute the errors on the 3 reports.:confused3

I just had to fix mine too. I called the companies directly and they sent me ammendments. I had some wacky messes on there. It had been about 4 years since I last checked, and I'm glad I did!

You need to find out what public document shows you living in Texas. You may have uncovered a case of identity theft, or a clerical error, but this needs to be straightened out. You can do all this yourself without using a service. Start by contacting the credit reporting companies.

We had to go thru this last summer. My DH is a Jr and his dad is a deadbeat, and all his judgements showed up on my DH's credit report. When we pulled them there was a option to dispute anything on the report. My DH had different judgements showing up with each reporting agency. It was a pain, and took months to get it straightened out.

Not that long ago I received a phone call asking if someone was going to be home so we could get served with papers, except they actually wanted my FIL. I can see this being a lifelong battle.

Wow! I am looking at all this and how do you prove you never lived someplace?

You just tell them you didn't.
The rule is they have to prove it's you, sometimes they will make you dispute something a second time but the company making the claim has to produce some sort of paperwork showing that they have the right person and that it's a valid claim. (it's like disputing a credit card charge- if they don't have a signed receipt they are screwed, you just have to wait a bit) Unfortunately the wait for it to be cleared can suck, which is why you need to keep on top of it instead of only checking when you need credit.

Don't pay a company to do this for you. Go read, read, read on creditboards.com and then start firing off letters.

This! You don't have to prove anything as far as proving how you didn't live somewhere, they have to give you proof that you did. But like others have pointed out don't pay someone to do this, you can do it all yourself.

It's really pretty easy to deal with the credit reporting agencies. Just follow the directions on their sites. We had multiple "errors" on our report - wrong address, employer, name, etc. We didn't have any negative credit related info though, so I'm not sure how hard that would be to get straightened out. I wouldn't pay someone to do it. We recieived answers really quickly and the information was corrected.
