WIth the new point charts out I was wondering how this works.
All numbers are made up for examples and do not represent real numbers.
If we had a FW that was 100 points and we paid the 10% premium for 110 points. That week now show to book is 120 points. Do we, if we cancel get the 120, or the 110. And as such if the week goes down to 90 and cancel do we get the 110?
Just wondering if anyone knows the answer.
Thanks

You will always get what you paid for if you cancel the fixed week.

You will always get back the number of points in your contract, so 110 in each case. If the week you own now costs more - in your example, 120 - you’ll only use the 110 points if you use the week. The same is true of the reverse, if the week is now less.

The guaranteed week charts are also set when a resort opens. So, if a week now costs 120 points in 2023 points, but was set at 110 points when the fixed week chart was established, you can buy the week at 110 assuming it’s still available.

We have a 168 pt Poly Fixed Week 44 (Jersey Week) Lake view that cost 153 pts to book in 2015.

it now costs 185 to book.

We can either use our week, or use our 168 points.

We’ve never used our fixed week and only bought it as a hedge against the future. I told my wife when we bought it that this is a 50 year contract and we are buying a hedge for later years. Specifically we thought in the distant future that Oct and Nov would be more pop than early Dec. we never plannned to use the guarantee in the first decade or two.

I had already borrowed 2022 points because I stay in borrow mode. Starting in 2023, we plan to use our guarantee each year. At year 8, that’s a lot sooner than I thought would happen.

Same here! Our FWs (we bought 3: runDisney week 44 Food & Wine, Week 47 and week 48, all Studios at CCV) because we saw that Disney was raising fall and Christmas season point charts and studios are hard to get that time of year. We’re still traveling with our kids, so we prefer the larger accommodations, but we bought this as a hedge against the future as well when it would just be the two of us and to make getting the studios easier when we would want to travel, as it’s hard to nab a studio at CCV in fall frenzy. When CCV opened, those 3 weeks were 107 points to book, and 118 to purchase. They are now 123, 127, and 118 points to book, respectively, in 2023.

As a note for anyone considering a FW, when you buy one, it’ll still be the original week cost. If you want CCV Week 44 Studio, it’s 118 to buy the fixed week, not 123. PVB Lake View week 44 is 168 to buy, not 185.
