Hi,

Wondering if any of you have slept comfortably with 5 in an AKL room and what type of room you had? My husband and I are going on our own in January, but will return to WDW in August 2006 for a week with the kiddies. My son will be 3 and my stepdaugthers will be 14. I thought maybe a room with bunk beds. My husband really wants to rent a house, but since we are only coming for a week I would rather stay onsite.

Thanks!

Standard AKL rooms can accomodate 4 people plus one child under the age of 3 in a crib per fire code. You would need to book a Deluxe AKL room to accomodate more than 4 people aged 3+. Deluxe rooms can sleep 6.

I stayed in a standard pool view room at AKL and it seemed a bit small. It was perfect for my bf and me, but I cannot imagine putting five people in the room.

Have to agree. My daughter and I stayed at AKL and found the rooms very small for a delux. Just like the WL. SMALL!

I couldn't imagine 5 in a regular room- FYI: the rooms at WL and AKL are the same size as CBR.

Have U thought of renting points at a DVC resort? You may fit better into a 1 bedroom. Take a look at the DVC board. Just a thought. I rented a studio at VWL, and loved it. Cost about the same as a room in the lodge but I had a kitchen. With a 1 bedroom you would get a washer/dryer and full kitchen. You could bring a nice easy breakfast and eat in the room. My DS6 will eat in the room then again at the breakfast buffets, later in the am. You will also have better access to snack for the evening. :rotfl:

Can you tell we eat our way through WDW.

Have a great trip.

Another thought would be the cabins in Ft Wilderness. It's not a deluxe resort (obviously), but there is so much to do and having the extra space in the cabin is great.

Check out allearsnet.com and see if the cabins appeal to you. We've stayed in them many times and have always had a great time.

1 bedrooms have a limit of 4 people over the age of 3 years old. They have a king size bed and another room with a sofa sleeper. That wouldn't do fine for 5 people. OKW might do better, but then again the offical limit is still 4 people. A 2 bedroom would work, but really is a lot of points. (and money.)

I think the suites and jr suites that johnsonet was talking about sounds worth looking into it. The one with had 1Q, bunk beds and a daybed sound good.

We stayed in a Deluxe bunk bed room with DH and I and the kids 10, 10 and 12 at the time. It was fine. The beds sit higher off the ground so there is storage for all your stuff there which helps. The bathroom is split with double sinks and places under the sink to put stuff (we kept our dirty laundry there). We used the balcony a lot so that was like having an extra room. A deluxe bunkbed room would be perfect for your kids' ages.

If renting points from a DVC owner, you can book a one bedroom for 5 people. We did this for June 2006. It sounds great to me and will have a lot more room than when the 5 of us stayed at POR. :teeth:

Where did you put everyone??
There is only one kind bed and a full size sleeper sofa.
The DVC owner couldn't have put you down for 5 that is for sure because Disney won't book it that way. Unless one of the children was under 3

We slept 5 in a DVC studio last March. However it was DH and I, my 13 year old DN and my 3 year old DD and the 7 month old baby. DH and I in the bed. DN on the sofa bed, and DD on the floor with her blow up sleeping beg (she perfered this, she still rolled off a normal bed.) We put the pack in play in front of the sink, but had to put it away in the am becuase it was really full in the room. We fit okay, but the storage was the biggest problem.

My friends had a normal BC room and they fit 5 in the room very well. It was my friend and her DH in, a 3 year old, a 6 month old baby and my friends 27 year old sister. They did DW, DH and baby in one bed and Sister and son in the other. There was a a day bed, a refride and their room was TONS bigger then ours. Much more storage space.

I think the OP point was they wanted to stay at AKL and I think there are more expensive options then the standard rooms there. You might just want to call CR and ask about it.

If your DS is newly 3 and doesn't mind sleeping with you, or in a pack in play or on the floor in a blow up sleeping bag (as my DD did) you might do ok. I would imagine the girls wouldn't mind sharing a bed. However the suites and rooms with bunk beds sounds good too. My DD loved sleeping in a pack and play well after she was 2 years old and into 3 years old. We thought she was going to fight the bay for it, but she did give it up. The funny thing is the baby HATES pack in plays and would much rather sleep in bed with us on vacation.

The deluxe rooms are a bit larger, but not enough to really be noticed. The rooms at CBR feel alrger as they only ahve doubles, where at the AKL they are queens that take a lot more floor space.

To the OP--personally I think five is a bit tight in one of those rooms, but it depends on what you're used to.

I won't rent points to anyone who will be over legal occupancy, and it's specifically stated in my rental contract. The renter is required to give me the names and ages of everyone who will be occupying the unit, and I give those to DVC when I book.

To the OP -- We were four adults when we stayed at AKL in a deluxe room. We were very comfortable. We had a room with a queen bed, bunk beds and a day bed. My 6'3" brother slept comfortably on the day bed. The AKL is a lovely hotel. A savannah view is, IMO, a not-to-be missed experience. Sitting on your balcony in your pj's at night, watching animals do their thing, is truly unique. We happened to have stayed concierge and, if you can swing it, that was a lovely added benefit to our trip. The lounge is situated at the top of the hotel, the food offerings were tasty, the drinks good and the added service was very nice. Plus, we got to do the morning safari.

With your group, you should do great in a deluxe room. Personally, I think the two bathroom thing is vastly overrated. I'm much rather stay at a deluxe hotel and be a bit tight for a few days, than have two rooms at a value.

was your room at AKL considered a premium room or a jr suite? we stayed in a savannah room w/a queen bed and bunk bed (no daybed) and found our family of four very cramped... we much prefer two rooms at a value or a moderate...

For cost, it will be cheaper for you to stay in a contemporary wing room or a room at the poly than it will be for a Deluxe room at AKL. If you are going in AUgust you are going to have to take a break from the parks during the high heat for all to rest. You may also want to consider a room around EPCOT.

Gigi1313 -- No it was a just a deluxe room. For me, so much of the magic is in Disney's deluxe hotels that I'm willing to give up space to stay at the deluxes.

The deluxe rooms at AKL are larger then the standard rooms. We could see into some of the standard rooms from our balcony and the bed was pretty much right next to the door for the balcony. In our room we had the floor space of the length of the daybed (regular size couch basically) and a bit more between the bed and the balcony door. The deluxe rooms are fine for a family of 5 with the ages of the OP's kids. Like I said earlier you have the added space of the balcony, too, which adds to your space.

This picture was taken by the wall between the bathroom space and the sleeping space. It is hard to tell but there is quite a bit of room between the bunk bed and the wall, the bunk bed and the queen bed and the bunkbed and the balcony door. The space where the double sink is in the bathroom is probably a 10x10 space, so roomy.

They may not be the largest rooms at Disney, but they are roomy enough.
