Fitted Sheets at DVC?

We haven't had our first stay at BCV yet and I'm curious whether the villas in DVC have fitted sheets on all the beds (like one would have at home) rather than a bottom flat sheet tucked in like at some hotels? Thanks!

Wow, I am really sad to hear that they don't use fitted sheets...I had hoped with the deluxe rating that would be automatic. It makes a much nicer bed...doesn't come apart and mess up. I guess we will have to bring our own as well. Thanks for the info!

do higher end resorts usually have fitted sheets, I guess I really never check LOL.

I am getting an education here. First someone is thinking about buying into DVC but is concerned about views. Now we have somone concerned about fitted sheets over regular flat sheets??I have been staying at hotels all over the place all my life and made 17 trips to OKW also and I can not tell you what kind of sheet they have. I don't make the bed in the morning, my wife does, I take care of the garbage, maybe that is why. At any rate thanks for the education I am getting here today.

We took our own as well. We just put it right on top of the one already there. It makes making the bed so much faster and easier! Just be sure that you bring one that isn't white so you won't forget it!

Nope, they all have flat sheets.

It's funny how some times little things mean a lot. Those sheets always bug me too. Usually by morning my shoulder is rubbing against the bare mattress.

During the last year DW and I switched from a firm mattress to a pillow top. The extra thickness of the pillow top was having the same effect on the fitted sheets, even though we bought the ones that said they were designed for the thicker mattresses. One day I saw an item in the store that looked like it might work to correct this problem and tried them. They're these small plastic clips with no moving parts that fit over the sheet and wrap around the bead on the bottom of the mattress. So far they work pretty good. It was a good $5. investment.

I was thinking that on my next trip to DVC I would pack these clips and see if that helps.

A picture is worth a thousand words so I added the link below.

I've stayed at 5 star hotels around the world, and EVERY ONE of them used flat sheets on the mattress as well. It's easier for the hotel to wash them, and fold them. Also, at all of the 5 star hotels I've stayed at, my room had full housekeeping twice a day, sometimes 3 times, so even if I took a nap, the room was always put back together. So, fitted sheets definately aren't the norm at nicer hotels!

People come to these boards for information. I am glad I could help "educate" someone.

The bed sheet issue is important to me, and obviously it is important to others, as well.

I sleep on 400 thread count cotton sheets at home so when I go on vacation I bring the comforts of home with me. To each his own.

This is actually the first downside to DVC I've ever seen! I've never thought about it before but without having the bed remade every morning yes you will have problems with the sheets! Bringing your own sheet is a solution but I think I'll go look for these mattress clip things instead. After a couple nights of me making the bed the sheets do slide.

What size is the bed in the studio..queen? And is the sofa bed a double? I'm assuming that a fitted sheet would fit the sofa bed also?? Sure would make making it easier each morning...just fold it up!

In regards to luxury hotels, I can tell you the Whitehall Hotel in our Concierge collection has fitted sheets! .....oh so nice!!!

That is nice. I've never had a problem, and I've stayed at these places, and ALL OF THEM had flat sheets on the mattress. The Savoy and Hyde Park Hotel in London; The Plaza and Pierre in NYC; The Breakers in Palm Beach; Bellagio and Venetian in Las Vegas; Las Casitas in Puerto Rico; The Halekulani, The Princeville, and Four Seasons Grand Wailea all in Hawaii. Fitted sheets would be nice, but since at all these hotels twice or three times a day maid service is standard, it really never was a problem. Now at DVC, that's a different issue. It BUGS me SO MUCH (and I refuse to re-make a bed on vacation) I now pay for nightly turndown service. Housekeeping is in and out quickly with this service, and I get a fresh bed everynight. I also get fresh towels!!! It's a win-win for me, and we're always out at night!!

Actually, this is educational...I've never considered fitted sheets to be a premium...they always seem to me to be a lazy way to dress a bed with linens. Maybe because I'm too lazy to dress a bed with them [flat] and take the easy way out with fitted sheets :cool2:

As to redressing the bed every day...I did a google search oh 'why make a bed'. I got a few people posing that question, but no one seems to have an answer. Until science can come up with a reason, I'll dedicate my efforts to more important endeavors like learning how to fold fitted sheets instead of just rolling them up into ball and throwing them in the bottom of a closet as I'm inclined to do.

Carolyn, 400TC sheets are wonderfully luxurious, but we've never been disappointed with the sheets at Disney. Maybe we're just too exhausted.

who isn't a carpenter and would rather buy a bed than make one.

actually, I have heard of a reason for making a bed - it helps with dust and mites:eek:
But if you change your sheets often enough, I'm not sure how much of a problem those things really are

We've been bringing our own fitted sheets lately. Housekeeping NEVER seems to get the bottom sheet on properly. Usually the mattress is exposed at the foot of the bed.

When I put on our fitted sheet, I take their bottom sheet and use it to 'triple sheet' the bed - put it over the blanket. It is more sanitary and gives a more deluxe feel to our 'home'.

Exactly! And if you're tall like we are you feel that rough area at the foot of the bed that's not done right when a flat sheet is used instead of fitted!!

Embassy Suites also uses fitted sheets. We bring out own, I can't stand for them to come off and I hate when the maids "short sheet" you.

Another advantage of DVC and no daily maid service. Once my bed is made with my sheets, I don't have to worry about them carrying them off for a few days.
