DCL has an exercise room on its ships, right? Is it included or is it an extra fee to use? What kind of equipment is in there? Specifically wondering about free weights and kicking/punching bags. Thanks!

The gym and equipment there is no add'l charge. I do not recall punching bags, but there were free weights. But maybe not the big kind for power lifting! :D

99.5% sure no punching bag. They make too much noise and there's really not room for one.

Also, just to note in case this is an issue, you have to be 18 or older to use the fitness center.

As PP said, it’s available at no extra cost (except for personal trainer sessions and some classes). There is no punching bag, only a few free weights but plenty of machines.

Definitely no punching bag but the fitness center has everything you need to get a good workout in. No, you won’t find any power lifting machines but it’s enough to get the job done with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and free weights. You’ve also got the nautilus-type weight machines so you can hit all your muscles.

I wish there was some sort of dedicated indoor room or studio space for HIIT or AMRAP workouts. I’m dreading doing my workouts outside.

Could you not do them using the floor space they use for classes if a class isn't going on?

Is there a space? I’ve searched & searched videos & pics. I can’t find anything other than pics of all the weight equipment, treadmills, & elipticals. I’m looking for Fantasy specifically.

Maybe I’m mixing up in my head with RCCL where there is definitely an open space where they do group classes like spinning but anyone can use if a class is not going on. Where does Disney do their classes?

I have no idea how much space one of the things you’re talking about needs though.

There’s definitely not room on the Magic or Wonder, can’t remember Fantasy though.

It's not huge, but there is some open space in the Magic gym. I've watched spin classes held in the gym on the Magic - the bikes are foldable and put aside but they bring them out. I've also done some HIIT workouts in the Magic gym over on one side. There's more room on the Fantasy but I don't like it quite as much.

There's free weights (up to at least 80 lbs possibly higher), a couple of benches, some weight machines, treadmills, stability balls, mats, no punching or heavy bags. I have to modify my workout slightly to accommodate the lighter weight selections but I can still get a good workout.

I've seen some of their classes, like yoga, out on the pool deck, around 6:30 AM or so.

Yeah. They do "yoga" out there - it was merely stretching the one time I went even though they called it yoga. None of us there were amused.

But they have an indoor area where they so spin and other classes I think.

I can't speak to the Fantasy, but on the Magic I staked out a bit of space and grabbed one of the fitness mats and did a HIIT workout on my own where they normally set up the spin bikes. Just make sure you don't go when they're holding a class like boot camp or the stretching because they take up most of that space. If there's space on the Magic, I can't imagine there not being space on the Fantasy.

On the Fantasy there is an area just forward of the weight machines that when not used of a class should work. It is no huge but might be 10x20 or so. It does get used some for free weight and people stretching and stuff.

Okay. Yeah. I’ve seen the space you’re referring to on Fantasy gym videos. I can give it a shot. If I don’t like it I’ll go find me a spot off to the side on deck 4 or something. I’m not as worried the first 7 days because my hubby gets up early anyway. The second 7 days I will be with a friend/roommate and I would feel awful if I woke her up.

Have you done the boot camp class? I’d like to find someon who has so I can hear how it was. I’ve never done a boot camp class before. I have considered also getting a trainer like the 1st of my 14 days to go through and work me up a little routine on the machines & make sure I’ve got the correct form. Then I can just just replicate for the remaining days. But, that kinda defeats what I love most about the current program I’m doing with the HIIT workouts. Every day it’s something different. No muscle memory!
