Dear DIS board members,

We are planning to join DVC and are doing loads of research. I have learned a lot from this forum. I have seen much discussion of the pools, the rooms and the locations. I haven't seen anything about the fitness centers, which is important to my husband. (We'll see if he actually uses them when we're there, but for now he wants to know! :) ) I hope you can help me with these questions:

* Do all the resorts (BWV, BCV, OKW, SSR, VWL) have fitness centers? I have definitely seen them mentioned for SSR and VWL.

* Is there an extra fee to use them? I understand for the SPA services at SSR there are extra costs, but I'm asking about just using the ellipitcal machines, weight machines, etc.

* What are they like?

Thanks!

Hi -- we were quite pleased with the workout area that is more-or-less attached to the spa at SSR. For my husband and me, we prefer to work out mid-to-late afternoon and essentially had the place to ourselves, but then again, only 1/3 of SSR was open for business at the time. ;)

The other thing we liked about SSR is that we could play tennis and basketball as well, for a change of pace in working out.

I believe all were no charge.

OKW has a dedicated fitness/weight room across from the pool next to Hank's with a full cycle (arms, legs, abs, etc.) of Cybex resistance equipment. It also has treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes for aerobic effort. Their are also weight benches that can be adjusted for flat to incline level and a selection of dumbbells pairs in 5 pound increments from 5 to 75 pounds for free weight work. There is a water cooler and towels for use to wipe sweat, etc. It's a nice facility and is never very crowded. There are changing rooms with lockers and showers for men and woman attached. it has two TV's to provide entertainment during your workout. The room is not staffed, so you are on your own in your workout.

BWV has Muscles and Bustles health club with all of the above plus more in the stretching and aerobics area. It is staffed for help during your workout. It also has steam and sauna facilities right off the workout area. M&B is free if you show your DVC Member card.

BCV has the Ship Shape Health Club where you can work out on Nautilus and Hammer Strength exercise machines, do aerobics on treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes, relax in the spa, steam room or sauna and get help with the equipment from onsite staff. It always the most crowded of the DVC exercise locations due to the Yacht and Beach Club guests also sharing the facility. Shipe Shape is free if you show your DVC Member card or resort card.

VWL has Sturdy Branches Health Club which it shares with the Wilderness Lodge. I haven't been there in a few years to be able to tell you what type of weight equipment it has, but it is full service and like the others mentioned above for amenities. It was free to hotel guests when we stayed there.

SSR has everything that M&B has and more due to the much larger facility. It has Hammer equipment and Cybex's latest in two complete cycles. It also has lots of free weight options beyond just dumb bells. It is also full service and has really nice areas for sauna and steam due to the spa it shares common facilities with. It is free with a DVC member card.

As you can see there is no excuse for not staying in shape while visiting DisneyWorld :)

If you enter a search above on 'fitness centers', you will find several threads on the resort fitness centers.

yes all DVC resorts have a gym (fitness center).

OKW is probably the worst - definitely the smallest.

I think VWL has one of the best!!! nice equipment, very nice staff and much nice stuff (outside) to look at than BWV or BCV.

Thank you so much for this information. It is just what I was looking for. Also thanks for the suggestion to search past threads. I should have realized that was possible to do, and now I know that it is.

You are a very friendly and helpful group!

I only discovered the idea of DVC a few weeks ago but it immediately caught my attention and the more I find out, the more confident I am that this is a great thing for our family and the more excited I am about it!

I still prefer the gyms with nice stuff (inside) to look at.
