How crowded is the fitness center? Will I have trouble getting on a
treadmill? I assume early morning is packed? How many treadmills do they
have? I know I can run outside but I prefer to use a treadmill because of my
knees. Thanks for your help!

The fitness center is most crowded early in the morning on sea days. It is empty a little later in the day and on port days.

At crowded times, there is a sign up sheet for treadmills and you are asked to limit your time to 30 minutes. THere are about 8 treadmills, 3 elipticals, a rowing machine or two, a couple stair steppers, free weights, balls, etc. My numbers may not be exactly right--can't say that I counted them. Most of the time, I could walk right in and get a treadmill. The elipticals were harder to get as there were fewer of them.

When there is no waiting list, you can stay on the equipment longer.

Every time we stuck our head in the place was nearly empty. Probably varies from cruise to cruise. Which is why I was upset that no one under 18 is allowed in. DS, 16 wanted to use the equipment, it was available, but off limits.

Is there a charge to use the fitness center? If so what is the cost?

There is no charge for the fitness center itself, although DCL has toyed with the idea of charging for fitness classes (kickboxing, yoga, step...) They (at least to my last reading) have stopped charging extra for the classes. DH and I visited the gym nearly every day on our cruise pretty early in the morning, with little or no wait for any cardio machines. It is small, so it gets crowded quickly, especially on at sea days. You should never have any wait on port days, however.
