I have belonged to the same fitness center for almost 20 years :earseek: I pay $25 a month. It is for women only, which I like. There are a few things that I have been upset about lately. One is the lockers. You are not supposed to leave your things in them overnight. Alot are, so sometimes it is hard to get a locker. Another is, there is a waiting area up front, lately there has been men waiting there while their wives/SO are working out. There are have been a few instances in which a man has followed their wives/SO into the locker/dressing room. I think I traumatized one for life :rotfl:

Have started checking around other fitness centers :earseek: Alot charge activation fees anywhere from $250 to $700 :earseek: Just curious what some you are paying.

I recently went to sign up to Lifetime Fitness in Colleyville, Texas....I haven't done it yet. They wanted $250 to sign up, then it was $99 a month for two of us w/ use of the kids area. (this didn't include extras like the rock climbing wall) For just one person it was $55 w/ kid section, $50 without. The kids area is a large playroom that is gated off, ID must be scanned to drop off/pick up and you can use it for up to 2 hours daily.

To be honest, I LOVE this place but I was kind of put off by the membership people. Very pushy (which I know is there job) and he must have said that the signup fees only go up, never down so the $250 is as cheap as it will get.

Good luck!

At my Y, the joining fee is $100 and then it's $65/month for a family membership. If I had to guess, it's probably about $40/month for a single adult.

I used to belong to curves and it was $30/month, with a 12-month contract. I don't remember what the joining fee was, but I'm sure it was around $100 or less.

If you like where you're at why don't you address your concerns with the management. Men should not be in the locker rooms. :confused3 I wonder why they would even think that would be appropriate.

I can't believe that guys go in your locker room! :earseek: That would definitely be considered offensive at mine. It's not the family locker room, is it?

We can't leave our stuff there overnight, and it doesn't look like anyone does. My gym is at the JCC and it's a really nice crowd. :sunny:

Not the family locker room, the place is for women only. I have complained, think I will complain so more.

I pay 500 for the year, that is it, no other fees. I pay upfront instead of monthly, I hate those monthly bills!

My DH and I pay $79.50 a month for a family membership at our local Y and they waived the start up fee because we joined in January. It is well worth the money we are paying as they have a beautiful facility and they are in the process of expanding.

Wow, those are some high prices!

Makes me glad that I go to a college that they hide the gym fee deep inside my tuition :rotfl:

I pay like $77 a month for my health club Northwest Athletic Club http://www.northwestac.com/ I joined in July of 2002 when they had a no activation fee promotion going on, but you had to agree to a one year contract at the time. Not sure where you are located, but I'm really happy with my club. It is both men and women, but they offer so many different programs/services and the staff is wonderful. Plus the place is always clean and had the best locker room out of all the of Athletic Clubs I toured. You can rent a locker for a year or they have ones that can be used while you work out for a quarter I believe. There is a Lifetime Fitness around here that is a women's only gym...if you are still interested in one they might have a location near you.

We have a family membership to our YMCA, which has an amazing fitness center and awesome classes. We pay ~$65/month. I am sure there is NO better fitness center around.

We pay $67 (went up $2 Jan. 1) a month for a family membership at our Y. It's just two years old, so the facility is fantastic. Joining fee is $100, but you can always skip that or pay half if you're careful when you join. I think the months to do it are usually January and sometime in the summer, maybe July.

Ours is a $400 initiation and $120 a month for a family membership. That includes child care services, kids classes and full use of all facilities.

DH's company has a deal with the health clubs for employees so I think we paid a $100 initiation and then got one month fee.

I don't know - I hate the gym so I think the prices are insane.

We pay about $70/month (dink rate) for full use of the facility (weights, cardio machines, pool, classes, hot tub, etc.).

I'm feeling a bit guilty. My joining fee was $30 and it's $36 per month, for a single membership. I recently switched from our YMCA, where it was $90 initially and $55 per month for a family membership.

I belong to a smaller local gym. No sign up fee and $25 a month. It's pretty no-frills, but it has what I need (and there are classes). No one keeps things overnight in lockers, but Becky (the owner) gave us storage containers under the sink to keep stuff in. Most of us who go there are like family so we don't care if others use our stuff. :sunny:

I pay $56 per month for a family rate at a local community center. There is 2 gyms, raquetball courts, an indoor track, three areas of weight/cardio machines, and an indoor pool.

There was a $50 fee to start-up the monthly bank drafts but you could get that waive if you paid your entire year up front. It is a 12 month contract.

The nearest health center to me was advertising a "great introductory rate"... which turned out to be $40/week! :earseek: I didn't even want to know what the regular fee was.

I bought myself some weights and an exercise bike. :teeth:

We just joined Lifetime in our area. I know they have specials for the enrollment fee. When we joined 3/6, they were able to give us $150 discount on the sign up fee by us joining a credit union sponsor they were working with. It didn't cost us anything, actually saved us some and even though we signed up, we will never deposit any money at the credit union. In fact, we haven't even received any solitations from the credit union.

We didn't find our salesperson to be pushy at all. But, FWIW, we went during a time a friend of ours was working at the front desk and personally chose the salesperson to give us our tour. I do know that the salesperson was not exactly accurate on what we were told. We took out the family membership expecting to use the rock climbing wall for both of our kids. DS10 had no problem, but DS5 couldn't participate because he needs to be 6. Would that have discouraged us from joining, no, but we wouldn't have told DS5 he could climb if we had known he couldn't. We also were not told that the orientation would be through a personal trainer, with a health assessment done during the orientation. Since the personal trainer made it known that he worked only on commission, he was very eager to sign us up for personal training services.

My DS5 loves the kids room. My DS10 hates it. Tells me there is nothing to do in there and it's boring after a while. Unfortunately, there isn't any other option but for him to go there when DH & I chose to work out together. I tell him it's a good opprotunity to do some extra reading. ;)

I go to Lifetime as well. I LOVE the club, but I don't like the way they are...pushy pushy pushy. A personal trainer told me that he wouldn't sign me up unless I did 3 times a week at 80.00 a session. Heck no. I know that you need to train 3 times a week...but let me pay you once a week and give me something to follow and see how it went the next week and make adjustments. The salesperson lied to me too...especially about referrels. Anyway, I do like the club and it makes me work out and I guess that is all that matters.

I pay €61 ($80) a month, my DW pays €46 ($60). When you're married or living together one gets a rebate. You can't leave anything on the lockers overnight as our lockers are locked electronically. When the gym closes at midnight all lockers pop open automatically.
The gym is equipped with about 100 treadmills, three large machine-areas (Nautilus style), one huge area for free weights, two aerobic rooms, one spinning room, two swimming pools, five Badminton-courts, 10 Squash-courts, three saunas, sunbeds, etc.
