FitBit Surge VS Apple Watch

I have a trip planned for the end of September and need a new activity Monitor, I have an older Fitbit and I like it but I want to check my heart rate and distance. The Apple watch does other things than activity but the fitbit does activity better. Does anybody have either of these, can you share how you feel about them.

I have the FitBit Surge and am using it for tracking activities and heart rate for those activities. Plus I also use it to monitor my sleep habits such as how many times I toss n' turn throughout the night.

Another good feature is that you can view incoming calls or messages from your iPhone.

An Apple Watch (which I don't have) is like an extension of your iPhone. Like for example at times you don't feel like taking out your iPhone just to view the weather, etc.

Yeah, I think I'm leaning towards the fitbit surge, Does it feel too big on your wrist?

My husband loves his Apple watch. Loves doing that Apple pay thing too. It reminds him when to move and congrats him when a goal is reached.

I would think the Fitbit is the cheaper option. But who does love new gadgets.

I have an Apple Watch and love it.

I think simply stating it's an extension of your phone is a bit simple but somewhat true. It does measure your activity as well as heartbeat.

The best thing about Apple Watch is that it's less intrusive than your iPhone. At work, I can just glance at a text on my phone and an alert and choose to ignore it vs whipping out my big phone out of my pocket and being submerged into my phone and then checking Facebook/Twitter/etc.

Great device yes, perfect no.

I bought the 42" Sport Model and love it. If i spent +$500 on it I might have buyers remorse.

Thanks, I'm such a techie so the Apple Watch sounds much cooler, just not sure I need it. Such a Dilemma:crazy2:

Not to throw another gadget into the mix, but have you considered the Garmin Vivoactive. Similar to the Apple watch with a much smaller price tag...

I guess it depends what you need and what you plan to do with the information.

I always wonder what it is people do with all the data they get from their fitness devices? Especially heart rate. I guess it can help if you have conditions that can be alleviated if you keep your heart rate lower (blocked arteries?). The way that computers count calories in terms of how many you burn is based on heart rate and distance but is still only averages.

I like to look at my steps if I know I am trying to reach a goal (like working in an office setting) or I have a particularly long day of walking around. But I don't go back and sift through the data over the course of a year. Maybe I should?

It should also be known that fitbit doesn't sync with the iPhone Healthkit app. A guy made a program that costs $0.99 to do it.
