I was skunk'd fish'n at our pond this morning by my lovely better half,
put the pics are on the Camping Community Board.

Do you have to pay to fish even if you bring your own gear?

ohboy Howdy !!!

Quick run down,,no you do not have to pay and you do not need a fishing license to fish on Disney property.
However, fishing is strictly "Catch & Release", you cannot keep the fish.
You also cannot fish from ANY dock , beach or public areas,,you can however fish from the banks (shore) along the canals, Bay Lake (the big lake) and ponds.

Disney does offer a guided Fishing Excursion on Bay Lake with fishing guide, and they provide EVERYTHING you need to fish. The guides are very good and can put you onto some real nice swimmers,,(it's pretty much bass fishing)My wife once caught a 9 pound bass on a excursion It was sooo cool !
Now, that being said, the Fishing Excursion is very expensive, but up to 5 people can go fishing for that one price,,
if ya wanna drop a few bucks I highly recommend the Fishing Excursion, it's a blast.

Anyone at the Fort doing any fish'n ???

And if your at the Fort, and not fish'n,,why not ????

Think about it,,if you bring your own equipment, fish'n is one of the very few things that you can do and not get charged by Disney !

And you very well may catch that lunker Mickey Mouse Bass !!

We've yet to fish at the fort, but DS is dying to go with DH when we go in January. He's only 4, so he loses interest rather quickly if there's nothing biting. Is he likely to get some bites or should I discourage it?

NEVER discourage a young'n on fish'n...and 4 years old is a great age to start teaching about the wonderful world of fishing
We don't need to be pro anglers to teach about how to fish,,, the important thing is to show the young one YOUR interest in fishing and how much fun it is.
First and foremost, when you take a child fishing you need to make the whole experience about THE CHILD (and not worry about you wanting to fish) and remember that the child may have a short attention whether it be 15 minutes, 1/2 hour, or even longer make it all about making it fishing fun for the child. And when the child is done , then they are done,,(we don't want to ruin them on fish'n before they get a good start.)

That being said, PLEASE bring a camera and take pics for them to show, even if nothing is caught, they will love to have pics of themselves fish'n.

Take him fish'n behind the Meadows store from the dock,,,pieces of fried chicken skins, worms, & pieces of hotdogs work nice for bait.
