Fishing in Disney / Orlando

Hello all, I am going to Orlando in May 2005 my partner loves his fishing, is there any fishing on site with disney? or any other recommendations in orlando / clearwater would be great.

P.S. How do I get a countdown date for my hol? I can't wait!!

There is fishing on site, but I think he may find cheaper/quieter/better fishing off site. There are a number of different "charter companies" in the area that will take him to some excellent fishing spots.

Do you know what kind of fishing your partner wants to do? Will you be staying on-site and, if so, at which resort?

My DH spends a lot of Florida time fishing but has never done any of the organised Disney excursions (they are very expensive). There's a 'fishing hole' at PO Resort, but DH views this as not for serious fishermen , but he's successfully fished from the bank at the same resort, as well as at OKW. He was told he wasn't allowed to fish from the shore at WL and had no luck finding any water worth fishing at ASMo (and, believe me, he'll have a go at pretty much anything wet! )

Haven't been to Clearwater but DH has been on a couple of charters off the Gulf coast further south and the Keys. I'll be happy to ask him for more advice if any of these might be of interest

My partner isn't fussy, he loves fishing in general! but I asked him and he would prefer the chance to do some sea fishing. We are staying at the Pop Century and also spending some time in Clearwater. If you have any info I'll be glad to read it.

I've asked DH if he has any info about Clearwater charters (which sounds the nearest to sea fishing your partner is likely to get), but he doesn't have any details of anyone in that area. Sorry You could try checking out links like this but it's difficult to know where to start!

Unfortunately I can't help with any info on fishing at Pop either as we haven't stayed there (not being a lot of help, am I?!), but if your partner can find any likely looking canals / waterways at the resort he could check with the front desk to see if they have any objections to him fishing them. He may be lucky - although I'm sure he'll say that luck has nothing to do with it and it's all skill....

Sorry Tony, I don't have any first hand experience of that.

I think there are some great sea fishing spots all around Florida. I know Destin (near Tallehasse) in the Panhandle is meant to be fantastic, Ft Lauderdale, Miami and the Keys are all well known as offering some great charter fishing. I don't know if Clearwater/St Pete are quite as spectacular as those other venues, but I'm certain there will be some good trips to be had.
