OK, I have read many of the other threads on this subject, but I still have a couple of questions.

Does anyone recommend a particular marina/lake as being better than another for fishing or has anyone had a particularly bad experience?

Additionally I am thinking of taking my 6 year old. Has anybody taken a child this young and how did the guide handle it. My biggest fear is getting out there and having a bored, unhappy child.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions. Only 2 weeks until I'm there :thumbsup2

Well, since all the lakes are stocked I can only assume the fishing is pretty level between all the lakes. If your child enjoys fishing, I'm sure he'll be fine, but as with fishing outside Disney, you have to be prepared for lulls in the fish biting, and they certainly don't gear the trips to kids, so no entertainment. I guess it depends on how well your child deals with down time. But you'll absolutely catch some fish!

Can't help with info about whether a child would enjoy this, but as to the number you can catch - we go on a fishing excursion every trip, sometimes two (we really enjoy it!). On our most recent trip last December, we went twice - once from BWI and once from WL. We caught about the same on both trips (around 15 fish), however another excursion that was out on Bay Lake the same time we were caught none! So it really depends on the weather and on your luck.

DH & ds15 are going on Friday out of CR because they wanted "a real bass boat" and not a pontoon experience. I just hope they catch something. They are far from pros but love to try. Caught tons of salmon in Alaska this past July but I think that was a fluke too. Oh well, I will let you know how they do.

I have gone not with a child though. If your child can cast and not be bored they will do fine. We fished for two hours caught 7 fish. They give you the option of casting or using live bait. The live bait was easy just throw it in and hope for a bite. The guides will cater to your group needs we used Carrie and she was very good. We are taking my son this time when we go this year.

Some follow up.

We took a trip from the contemporary on 10/17 at 10am

It was great. We caught 26 fish in 2 hours most weighin 2-3 pounds with the largest at 4. My son caught the largest and most fish and thought it was the greatest thing ever.

Our guide was David and he was wonderful with my son.

My husband did this with our sons last year and we have it booked again in 2 weeks. They said that there wasn't a dull moment on the boat. As soon as someone was reeling in their fish, someone else had a bite on their line. They went out of the Boardwalk and fished in Epcot, in France and Norway to be exact. The captain took them to various spots during the excursion. They absolutely loved it and it was the one thing they insisted on doing again. My son caught a 4 pounder, but most were in the 2-3 pound range and they caught quite a few.

My Dh and ds15 fished out of the Contemporary on 10/6 at 10 a.m. They caught nothing and only had a few nibbles. But they absolutely loved it and cannot wait to do it again. It was a very sunny and hot day but they said the guide kept them moving and they hardly noticed.
