At HHI and have a question...has anyone ever used a charter fishing boat and if you have which one did you use? My husband and son want to go out on one.

The charters vary depending on the season, how much time you want to spend on the water and what you want to catch.
Ask the harbor master or the captains what they are catching and decide if that's for you.
Local waters can be fruitful but a trip to the gulf stream can see you coming back with a variety of fish of larger size.
It is not cheap but the experience can last a lifetime.

I agree with Chum. We have chartered fishing excursions for a number of years now. the first few years we used Low Country Tours thru the resort and the last couple we chartered tours from the Shelter Cove marina across from the resort. Last year was with Bayrunner and this year thru Gullah Gal - http://www.hhifish.com/ .

All have been great and we stayed in the Calibogue Sound catching a wide variety is sharks, rays, Spanish Mackerel, Redfish and Cobia - they will filet the fish for dinner.

These charters will take up to 6 (Gullal Gal and True Grits) and fewer on the smaller boats.

There is also a larger boat that holds about 50 - the Captain Hook. It is not as personal but is a lot more economical depending on what your needs may be. It might offer a good experience for your husband and son. Also at Shelter Cove Harbour is Outside Hilton Head.

I took my Son-in-Law and 3 grandkids this summer on the Gullah Gal. We caught 25-30 sharks ranging in size from 2' - 50" - the kids (aged 10, 10, 8) had a ball! We also saw a lot of dolphin up close and personal! :)

Have a great stay! :)
