So we are headed to the Fort next Dec. My question is can you rent a boat and go fishing with your family. Or do you need a guide?

Can't help with you fishing question, but the fishing looks great in the fort. Are you heading this dec. or next. GO PHILLIES!!!!

We will be pulling out on Dec 3rd. It will be our first time staying at the fort! We are very excited.

Another question about fishing- do we need a state of FL fishing license to fish at FW?

No license needed. Bay Lake is private property & exempt from State of Florida regulations. It is catch and release only, however.

If you want to spend the $$$ on a boat & guide, you can, BUT, if you go behind the 300 loop and just fish the canal you should do well. You can save a boat load of $$$ and spend it on something more meaningful....like a T-Shirt!! :rotfl2:

But my question still stands. Can you rent the boat and rods, but not the guide? I have two young boys and wanted to make this the special thing we do, but i really don't want the guide. We will probably also fish behind the 300 loop like some have said.

This is our first family trip to the fort. We are staying in a cabin, hopefully first of many. I was there as a little boy but have not been back to the fort since.

I think that fishing on the lake is by guide only from a boat. I am not 100% sure though.

Boy, Frank sure picked the wrong time to get in trouble. He's our resident fishing expert and he is currently on a time out. You may have to wait until his return in a few days to get the answer you are looking for.

No, you can not rent a boat and fish from it. :sad2:

You can also fish in the lake next to the Bicycle Barn. I saw a few nice bass being caught there in the morning.

You can rent poles and buy worms there. if you're near a Wal-Mart at some point, I'd save yourself some $ and buy worms there and buy a cheap pole.

If you just plan on a one day fishing trip then renting poles and buying bait at fort would probably be the way to go if you plan to fish several days you may want buy your own and while out get bait i have had good luck at the back of the 300 loop where lake meets the canal caught several bass there no monsters but nice ones i'm here now and hope to get down there soon the lake by the bike barn has never been good for me but have heard others have had luck there even the little canals have bluegills so if you get worms you should find something to bite maybe catfish could be bluegills or who knows maybe a nice big bass good luck

Thanks for all the great info. We will have to rent because we are flying down from philly airport and staying at a cabin. We will probably fish two days. My 7yr old DS loves to fish, we'll see how the 4yr old does.
