Fishing at the Fort

Expanding on something Shannone said in another thread, if you rent a kayak can it be taken out into the larger lake area and not just the canals. What I'm really driving at is can you fish on your own from a kayak anywhere in the lake? Or is fishing the lake only from the banks or the guided tours? Anyone know if the lake is also only catch and release? Does the Fort rent canoes? What about fishing license or not needed since its a private lake? Thanks.

canoes can be rented. Kayaks and canoes cannot be taken out to the lake, and in fact there really would be no way to get from the canals to the lake without a portage. Fishing is strictly catch and release anywhere on Disney property. No license is required. No fishing from the docks. You can fish from the shore or on one of the chartered excursions. Shore fishing allowed on the canals.

It is only catch and release at Disney and as far as I know you can fish anyplace on the lake and no fishing permit is needed.

Thanks for the info. The catch and relese is actually no problem in that I really have no desire to clean fish on my vacation but, I was hoping to run portions of the lake in a kayak. Suppose I'll just have to be happy "closer to home" to see whats bittin'. Thanks.

Ive heard canal fishing sucks.......let us know how ya do. Take pics of anything ya catch for us. I'll be doing plenty of canal fishing, cuz ya just never know....and Im pretty used to not catching anything.....I havent caught a decent fish in so long I'll have to think hard to remember how to get one off the hook!!!

If what you are after is a large body of water to kayak in, Coronado Springs has a very large lake and they rent kayaks.
