I just read here on the DIS Restaurant Database that there is a huge fishtank at the Rainforest Cafe in AK! As I have a fish phobia, that is not good news.

I had checked the menu, and was all ready to book it next week for New Years Eve.

Is the tank really HUGE??? Can you see it from the seating area???

Please help! :confused3

I would not call it huge at all. there are a few small ones throughout, but you cant see them from every seat. But when you walk in, there are cylinder shaped tanks that connect on top that you walk under.

I have to disagree with the above poster. The fish tank at the front before you sit down IS huge. And there are a couple inside, and one of them is rather large. Issue with RFC is, it's so busy, getting a choice of where you sit isn't usually an option.

I don't know, I call them huge. They are not aquarium size but they are in my opinion very large and as the previous poster notes, you walk under them to your tables..smjj

Size: When we where there a man was inside one cleaning it. He was in a diving suit. So yes it is large. And you do need to walk under the connecting tank (they form a large H) to get to your seat. I do not recall if there is one in the seating area.

Huge indeed!!
We have seen the diver in there working on cleaning and such, and there is alot of room for him/her to move around. You have to go by/through those tanks to get to the seating area. The DTD RFC has at least one smaller tank within the restaurant, as we sat right beside it one visit. Not sure about the AK one, so I will defer to boomhauer's post on that one.
Depending on where you are seated, you may be able to see the tanks, or you may be tucked into the back area, and not see them at all. Just depends.

At the DTD location, I believe you can avoid the tanks by sitting in the bar area. Since that is on a first come first served basis, you don't have to queu up for the host to take you to a seat. The queu for regular seating assignment goes right beside the tanks.

Well, thanks guys, I've taken it off the plan - there is no way I can cope with such large tanks of fish - pathetic I know but I just couldn't go in there. :confused3

Does anyone know if the new Tusker House buffet is available to book yet? I know there's no menu available yet, but generally with a buffet you can't go far wrong.

Thanks

You would have died if you were with us on our last trip. We were sitting at a table right next to the tank. While we were eating, we were getting wet & noticed water running down the fish tank onto our table. We thought it sprung a leak & were about to be covered in fish & water. We got the waiter to check it out. Apparently, there was a fish splashing us. :lmao: He was swimming to the top of the tank & then splashing around, causing us to get wet.

And yes, the tanks are huge.

The above tank connects overhead, to this tank, and they form an arch you walk under:
