I've been reading everyone's dining reviews and I've noticed alot of fish on the menus, even sushi.

How is the fish? I've read in some guide books that fish can be a little questionable? My DD (11) loves fish. I mean to the point that if there is a fish option she won't choose anything else. I just want to make sure we won't be making a big mistake.

Is there a restaurant where I should avoid fish dishes? :stir:

Thanks for your help!

My son ate salmon at 1900 Park Fare, CRT Lunch and 50's Prime Time Cafe and he said it was all very good...but not as good as Mom's (awww  and I don't even eat fish so I have no idea what the salmon I cook tastes like, I figure baked salmon+butter+lemon+dill can't be too bad). Spring Break 2005 he ordered catfish from the kids' menu at Boatwrights, the TS at POR, and he hated it. He's like your daughter, if the menu has salmon, shrimp, or catfish, he'll get one of those or scallops if the price doesn't make me faint. The 3 restaurants where he had the salmon I believe that may have been the only fish choice, although 1900 Park Fare is a character dinner buffet, so there may have been something else seafood.

I had Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna with Wasabi Whipped Potatoes, Sugar Peas, Ginger soy reduction, and coriander lime essence (thanks allearsnet for the description) at MGM Brown Derby. It is as good as the ahi in Hawaii. Fabulous!

We have eaten at Flying Fish several times and have always had great meals. They make a very good steak for the non seafood eaters out there. Their chocolate souffle is one of the best desserts at WDW.

Can't agree with whatever guidebooks you've read--fish is available at almost all the better restaurants and almost always done well. Hardly a dinner goes by where either Mrs. U or I won't order a fish dish.
My favorite "fish" spots are Blue Zoo and the Flying Fish.

I'd be interested in knowing which guidebooks question the quality of fish served at WDW restaurants and would wonder why WDW would be different than anywhere else, as far as that quality goes.

The remarks were made in the "Unoffical Guide to WDW 2006" The comments were that whether you choose fish inside the parks or outside was a "toss up"
And that they wouldn't recommend ordering fish in any WDW restaurant that recieved less than a 3 1/2 star rating.

And normally I am very picky about where I order fish. Living on the coastline of Massachusetts spoils me I guess. But my daughter isn't picky at all! About the only fish she won't eat is a fish-a-ma-gig at MacDonalds! (I guess even she has her standards :) )

SO I just was curious about the quality. Thank you for the suggestions, I will try to steer the family towards those choices.

Any experiences with some of the counter service type restaurants and fish selections?

For CS meals with fish, I had the salmon at the Sunshine Seasons Food Fair in the Land in Epcot and it was so delicious. Definitely recommend it.

I'm from MA too and a big fish eater, and I can assure you that in general the fish I had at the TS places was excellent. We had great fish at Flying Fish (snapper), California Grill (tuna), Coral Reef (mahi mahi), Jiko (halibut), Artist Point (salmon), Raglan Road (fish and chips), walkup stand in the UK (fish and chips again), and probably some more I am forgetting.

However, I will tell you that the fish plate at Columbia Harbor House was pretty darned bad. Not recognizable as fish at all! For counter service fish, the walkup at UK is good, and the salmon at Tusker House in AK is decent.

We dined at the Flying Fish for the first time this past December and I loved it. I had the Potato Crusted Red Snapper and it was fantastic. It was my favorite meal of our whole trip.
