Fish Extenders for the Podcast Cruise

Also I'm on vacation, never been on a Disney ship, and don't have Santa's radar so I need a list to figure out where Dis'ers cabins are located. And, if I drag DH around all over the ship looking at every cabin to see if they have a FE, I doubt he will ever be willing to cruise or do another podcast event :rotfl2:

Personally, given the other stuff I'm committed to before the cruise, I would have a very hard time managing a 2 wk cutoff.

Maybe we go to multiple groups a cut off of Jan 31 for this group, and if others are upset and want to join, they can start another group. Of course, no one is saying someone can't join both groups or give gifts to others in the other group. :goodvibes

BTW, I also missed the part in chat when this was brought up.

cheers,
:flower3:

I agree with you Kim and I think that (bolded) is a good idea.

People can book the cruise until 3 days prior to the sail date. Additionally, many people cruising with us have not found this thread or the other thread. A lot of people are going to be disappointed that they can't join in. On a previous cruise we cut off the list at 2 weeks prior (usually what we have done in the past) and we still had disappointed people. Imagine the people that signed up from the start, don't know about this thread or can't find the time to get to it and find out in February, March or April that they can't participate. Personally I think the cut off should be mid-April. If you don't want to do it for everyone, you are not required to do so. We have had groups in the 130 to 160 rooms range.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the idea behind the fish extenders was to give gifts without the expectation of getting anything back. I've always had a problem with having a list of people who are willing to participate (it's kind of like telling me I can't give someone a gift if I want to because they aren't on the list). I know many people that will just take a list of people going on the cruise in the group and give them their gift, whether or not they are on the fish extender list.

Everyone can independently decide when to cut off the list for their purposes (ordering gifts, etc.) but I don't like the idea of a cutoff to exclude people from participating this early. Just my two cents.

I guess my only concern is that people who sign on late might get left out on the gifts that have to be ordered ahead of time. That would make me feel very bad, not to give to everyone that wants to participate.

I feel the same. I can't speak for anyone else, but our gift is personalized, which will take a bit of time to do each (a labor of love, however). We plan on making generic extras for those not on the list, as well.
That being said, any time frame will be fine with us, albeit after April will be cutting it close :scared:

What is the reason behind extending it? If the group rate ends soon (if not already) aren't most people signed up???

Remember....Any person from the DIS community can participate not just those of us signed up for the "Podcast Cruise". I'm sure there are several DIS folks sailing that don't even realize it's a DIS Unplugged Podcast Cruise also. I think I'll go over to one or more of the cruise forums and drop a thread about the FE sign-up over here. See if we can catch some folks that way.

ours is personalized too and we will be on vacation 3 weeks before the cruise so having a cut off date too close to the cruise isn't a good thing for us either.

Here's my thoughts - if you are on this board and interested in crusing you know about this section- you've probably read through threads and may have posted too (i can't be the only one who's been posting here for the past 8 months and only recently booked a cruise). they will have already seen the sticky at the top that says Cruise Meets and both Fish Extender threads in the general list.

so - to get to the point. there should be a cut off date - there has to be for several reasons, people travelling, room in luggage, cost, etc.

I would have to agree with the orginal cut off date for this group and if there are more people who are interested the start another group.

of course if there are only a hand full of people in the second group and it's April 1 maybe they could be added to our list.

I vote for a 1/31 cut off date.

I think April is going to spent packing and purchasing last minute things, etc.

Perhaps, I am just too OCD-ish and anal retentive...

Just my opinion.

Another OCD-ish, anal retentive DISer here! :wave2:

If anybody's keeping track, I vote to honor the original deadline.

I try to keep up on the boards as much as possible. But there seems to be 100 different topics going in many directions just for this cruise alone. Much of the talk is banter between those who know eachother well and that is fine, it's the nature of the message board. I've tried to pay attention more in the last two weeks and offer input and attempt some interaction. Mostly I'm a by-stander feeling a bit on the outside. I'm a new podcast listner, but a Disney fan for a LONG time. The amount of information I've gained here is vast. I cannot comment on every topic/joke/idea, I just don't have the time. I don't know how anyone keeps up with ALL of this. I find the idea of a group vacation with a Disney theme wonderful.. that is one reason why our family decided to go ahead and book it. I guess I'm not a message board person. I just don't have the time to keep up. That being said, our family would like to participate in the FE exchange. However, my budget and time has a limit. I realize this is voluntary and it is suppose to be fun, but if it's gets much bigger we will have to decline. The last time I checked we were up to 60 or so cabins (with a flow chart of adults sharing a room wanting/requesting duplicate gifts, some with families, singles etc, etc etc). I want to thank those who have been keeping the list (and checking it twice), the work you have done has not gone un-noticed.

I have to admit that I would like to see an end of January cut-off for the FE exchange. My DH already thinks I'm going to drive myself nuts w/ ordering/bringing/handing out gifts. ).

I guess I'll make my decision when the majority votes on what we should do.
Maybe a poll is in order.

Well it seems like the people have spoken. The official cut off will remain January 31st.

If anyone wants to join in they can, but won't be on the official list. Feel free to write them on your list to give them something if you like (I know I will).:)

I have a few questions for some of you:

1.firsttimemom - by cruise time, what age will Lindsey and Patrick be?

2.MrandMissVacation - by cruise time, what age will Sarah and Trevor be?

3.maizezoe - what are the names and ages of your kids at cruise time?

Thanks all!

This is good for us :thumbsup2 thanks for coming to a conclusion. I am still thinking of what to do and how much time I need (don't have much free time) I will probably do something crafty and need to order things/shop for them so a few months will be great to get them done in time - as well as our FE:laughing:
If I get through them quickly I can then do more for anyone else ;)

Also we would have to bulk buy some things and don't want lots of left overs so know a rough figure is a good indication (then get some extras!)

Thanks for everyones input and I'm sure any new people will be happy they can still participate.

Hi all! I've had a person change their mind and have an opening in the group Fish Extender gift. Anyone interested?

WOW:eek:

HI! Jan here....:3dglasses (that's for you Tadd).:confused3

So, it was mentioned last night in chat about extending the FE exchange sign up date. I was thinking March 31st. I see some of you are opposed, and so anyone else have an opinion? Please share.
I vote for Jan. 31st
We have to have a final count so we have time to plan and purchase the right amount of gifts.
Leaving it to March would be too late and not enough time to plan, purchase and ship the gifts.

Hey Kurby
I stoled your weather ticker.
Hope you don't mind.
I thought it was so cool. :thumbsup2

I would prefer the Jan 31 date. Gives us all more time to make, buy, and put together the things we want to give out.

hey Kat - that's ok - i'm all about sharing :)

wanna share your cabin LOL i'll sleep on the balcony :)

Hi Michelle,

Do not feel like an outsider. There are a lot of us who, like you, try to keep up with reading the threads and add comments when we can. That is fine and works very well.

It will be fun to meet everyone when we finally get on board and match faces to names. And yes, this is all supposed to be fun, we need to keep that at the top of the list.

I look forward to meeting you on the cruise.:goodvibes

Hey Michelle!
Dont feel like an outsider! I am new here too, was really a lurker until I signed onto the podcast cruise and started making an attempt to get to know people. Yes, there is a small group of disers who know each other very well. But I have to say after I started posting they made me feel right at home. So post as little or as much as you like, and I will look forward to meeting you on the cruise!
Yes, the number of staterooms is a bit overwhelming for the FE group, we (my friend Kristen) and I will be participating- but the group is getting a bit large!

take care :)
