First week in June?

I want to take DH and the boys to Star Wars Weekend. I feel that if I pay for air fare I want to stay a week. DH thinks it will be very crowded at the parks and that we should only stay for a long weekend. So my question is how bad is it the first week of June. It would be the week of June 3-10. We normally go the first week of December or sometime in September.

We have gone the first week of June a few times and it is not as crowded as later on in the summer since East Coast schools are not usually out until mid-June. They do have Gay Days going on during that first week. Not sponsored by Disney, but large groups do come to the parks. If that is a problem for you, you might want to go another time. Has never been a problem for us.

That's not a problem for us at all. The only think we care about are crowd levels.

I was there was SWW 5/27-6/3 (Memorial Day weekend) crowds weren't bad at all on 5/28 but we read up on the TP board before we left so we knew exactly where to go & what to do first.

All the other parks were manageable too. We did need a few fastpasses at MK & of course for EE at AK.

June 3rd for next year is the last day for all Gay Day Disney events . The main day ( with lots of crowds) is the 1st Sat of June.

I've found this time of year to be not to bad crowd wise.

to add to STARBOX's comment below , when I go for gaydays , my friends and I sleep in til at least NOON maybe later.

When I take the kids we're at the park for breakfast by 8 am.

We were there this last year during the last weekend of Star Wars. All of the parks were generally okay. They weren't really busy, but weren't really slow either. MGM during the weekend (Friday) was a madhouse. It was unusually hot. With it being the last weekend for the Star Wars events, everyone was flocking for one last trip. There were a lot of locals there as well. I would never do Star Wars weekend the last weekend it is being offered again. We did enjoy the activities they offered though, when there weren't lines to wait in.

2 years ago crowds not bad except for the week ends. But it rained, rained, rained all week.

We have always gone the first week of June. The weather is good - warm enough to really enjoy pools/water parks (although the pool temps were chilly last year) - but not so hot that you feel like the life is getting sucked out of you. One year when we went, it rained quite a bit. Once, it rained a little. Last year, it did not rain at all. It's Florida - so you just never know.

As far as crowds:

Gay Days - in the past we have simply looked online at the park rotation and avoided the park that looked like it would be crowded on that specific day. Last year, we really wanted to go to the MK on the designated red shirt day, so we tried it. Honestly, the crowd level was not that bad. Also, the Gay Days crowd did not seem to be particularly early risers. The park was really (unusually) quiet in the morning - it was not until 11-12:00 that it started to fill up. We managed to ride every single thing we wanted to ride between the hours of 9 and 12:00. We always go early, and usually can count on about an hour before it starts to fill up - but last year it was quieter longer. :thumbsup2

Star Wars Weekend - We've gone in the past , but this was the first year DS was really, really interested in all the Star wars stuff. We planned to get there when the park opened and it was AWFUL traffic wise. The Disney bus driver told us that, because there is only a small entrance to MGM (and no extra entrance for busses) that the traffic to get in in the morning for Star Wars weekends is phenomenal. He said he's seen it back up well past the CBR - and that sometimes they just have to stop charging to park for hundreds of cars so that they move them thru and can clear the road.

This is why we will stay in the BWV on cash the weekend of Star Wars this year. I do not want to sit in the traffic trying to get into the parking lot!

Once we actually got in - the crowds were not horrible. DD was not interested in Star Wars, and she and I had no problem doing non-Star Wars stuff without bad lines. DS chose to basically wait in lines all day for Star Wars autographs - but he was happy as could be and still wears his autographed "Star Wars" hat all the time.

One mistake we made was not realizing how quickly you need to sign up for the special Star Wars activities (like the Padawan Training Academy). Next year, either DH or I will get up extra-early and get there pre-opening to act as a "runner" and sign DS up for the limited participant events.

Thanks for all the info. I didn't know this would be the last weekend for Star Wars, maybe we will go up June 1 and have two weekends to see it all. To tell you how nuts the boys are about Star Wars, our dogs are named Kali Jedi and Sky Walker. One of my son's room is painted like the Wookie home world and the other is black and white with a big Darth Vader on one wall, storm trooper on one and the Death Star on the third.

Hope you never plan to sell your home. :rotfl2:

We just moved in this June. I plan to live here until the kids are out of the house. When we do move it's nothing 10-12 coats of primer can't fix. :rotfl:
