I posted on one of the other forums that I am on but wanted to post on here as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel like my mind is going to explode.

We are currently booked for the last week in April at the fort. Now we are not sure that may husband will be able to get that week off. So I started thinking about maybe to have extra time maybe the first two weeks in June or possibly August 19-27. We have been the last week in August because our anniversary is the 22nd. But this trip will be a little different with three kids. Our DS9, DS4 who was diagnosed with autism and our almost DD1 . I'm worried that June will be wall to wall crowded as we have always gone September and last week in August. I am a also a little worried about the trip because of having three kids and also with DS4 Autism.

Any recommendations would be great!

I hope others chime in with more experience, but from what I have read, June is much busier than August! We live in FL and I know my daughter will be starting school August 15 so I'm thinking most kids will be in school by the 22nd! Much pixie dust for a magical vacation for you and your family!! :tink:

End of August will be much less busy. We go that time of year often and crowds are great! :)

I have never been in August, but have been many times the first week of June. A lot of northern schools don't get out until mid-June, so we have always found that week to be fine. It's crowded, but I would not call it wall-to-wall busy.

Thanks everyone for the advice. We are in PA and the kids start before labor day again this year so I think it's August 29th. So we would check out staurday get home Sunday and then he would go to school Monday so I'm not sure how I feel about that but I think I might be over thinking it a little.

I would do June. End of Aug is brutally hot and hurricane season. We were there when a hurricane was threatening to hit and it was awful. Glued to the tv, wondering if we should leave etc. I know June is technically hurricane season, but Aug/sept seems to be a more active time for hurricanes for some reason. Most northern schools do not get out until middle or end of June, so they would not start to be there until later in the month.

I also don't like coming home on a Sat or Sun then going right back to the first day of school on Monday. We did that one year and it was hard on the kids. Plus we all got sick right after vaca. Thats just my thoughts. I alway wanted to do an end of May beg of June trip, but we are still in school at that time.

We are still in school in june but him missing the last couple of days of school doesn't bother me as it would missing in the middle of the year.

Yeah, I can see that. They really don't do much at the end of the year come to think of it. Lots of "movie" days, field competition day, cleaning the classroom day etc. I guess it would not matter too much missing a week at the beginning of June.

We are doing the first week of June bc GA schools get out the end of May but most northern schools go to mid-June so that first week isn't too terribly bad. I would guess that last week of August is less busy but hotter.

I thought the first week of June 2014 was quite pleasant. Crowds weren't unbearable as long as you had a general plan, and the weather was beautiful. It was actually quite cool on our arrival night, and we had sunshine all week without any rain at all. There were a few very humid days, but later in summer it's nothing BUT humidity.

My kids don't like missing the last couple days of school. Always parties, yearbooks, photo exchanges and other nostalgic stuff. I would opt for Aug because so much new stuff is scheduled to open Apr-Jun. Planning during that time is VERY difficult because they keep announcing new stuff and changing hours weeks or even days before your trip. I am planning 3 trips right now in March, May, and July (I know, first world problems ;)), and these constant schedule changes are driving me nuts!

For your ASD kiddo, check out the disAbilities board. Lots of experience parents can answer any questions you may have about overstimulation, character interactions, troubleshooting behavior and/or food issues, and the Disabilities Access pass which might allow your son to return later for rides rather than having to stand in long lines. My son also has special needs and Disney is his favorite place in the world. With a little prep I'm sure your vacation can be magical for your whole family! :wizard:

We have been to Disney during both times with our kids (once in 2012 the week after memorial day as soon as the kids got out of school, and this last year 2015 in August the week right before school started) and found the crowds during both trips to be about the same, which I would consider moderate and very manageable. This in comparison to going in Sept and early Dec during the "slower times". I would think crowd wise you are looking at about the same for both early June and late August. The only difference we found, really, was the weather. June seems not as overbearing with the heat, where as August felt like surface of the sun hot, and rained quite a bit more. So for us, because of the weather, we are more geared to early June.
