Is the first week in January a busy time with the DVC resorts? The reason I'm asking is it looks like we might have to cancel our upcoming stay the week of Thanksgiving. :sad2: :sad2:

And the only time off for my DD will be the first week of Jan., any help would be great.
Thanks

Once you get past the New Year's crowds, the rest of the week is very quiet.

I'ts not a nightmare, however you should book as soon as possible because the nights of Thursday January 4 - Sunday January 7 will be pretty full in the hotels due to the marathon weekend. However, you should know that this won't mean that the parks are full, just that the hotels will be harder to book due to runners.

We are going the 2 first week of Jan, and I've read that it's not bad at all in the parks, so I can't wait to get there and have fun. :cool1:

I tried to rent points from a dvc member for Jan 1-7 and wasn't able to get any reservations. All studios were booked, I'm not sure about the 1 or 2 bedrooms though. I ended up moving my dates to the week of January 14th, which worked out since it's my daughters birthday, however, I will have to pull them out of school for a week.

this is when we go each year, for the last 5 years. i think others have covered the basics for you already. starting jan 2, the parks should empty out, but even on that mon jan 1, we stay away from EVERYWHERE, including downtown disney, and even the pools, its just crazy! :) the resorts do stay full the rest of the week, 1)filled with marathon people who are out running every morning, 2) with DVC members taking advantage of lower points.

one thing i have learned from the DIS boards, and found it to be true, that lower WDW time of year often means busy DVC action with people getting the most out of their points.

the other big difference for you is the riskier weather. if you can go with the flow weather-wise, its a great time to go to the parks. we do have some hilarious pictures of us determined to see fireworks during that week, bundled up and with raincoats because 45degree drizzlig florida weather at 9:30pm won't ruin our Disney Magic!!! lol

feel free to drop us a private message if you want more info on that week. we will be there at VWL, after a week at VB!

If the question you are asking is whether you will find availability at the resorts when you call, the answer is you will not know until you try but be aware that in early July, I called for 2BR availability for the week of Jan 1 to 8 at any of the resorts and the answer was: nothing at BCV or VWL, some at BWV preferred but not boardwalk view or standard, and availability at OKW or SSR.
