You may recall, DH and I became the proud new parents to an adorable blue tick coonhound stray that wandered into our yards and hearts this past weekend. Made some phone calls today (local vet, humane society and animal shelter in the surrounding counties) don't want to be accused of not trying to find the owner, even though she was very obviously abused. Long story short, she seems to be all ours! yay for Lilly Belle! Took her to MY vet today for the once over. Vet says she's between 2 and 5 (we'll call it 3!) and healthy.

Well guess what some loser, trash, waste of air dumped in my yard this morning?

A teeny tiny kitten, no more than 4/5 weeks old. I went out to bring in the horses and all was fine. An hour later I went back out and I here this pathetic mewing from the bushes next to my house. There he was, scared poopless! He's adorable. Solid grey little boy.

I fed him, gave him water (so hungry he was shaking while wolfing down milk). His eyes were oozing too so I took him immediately to my vet who prescribed him antibiotics and eye ointment and treated him for ear mites ($105!!).

I guess his loser owner didn't want to be "burdened" with him and thought he could fend for himself on my farm...at 5 weeks old. Poor guy could barely walk a straight line! No way he walked to my property. I'm in the sticks. He was dumped for sure.

Anywho...he's now chilling in my office. Medicated..food and water and snuggles. Either he'll stay and be raised with my barn cats or one of my clients may have an adoptive home in mind for him. Came at a good time. We may be putting down our OLD man barn cat tomorrow. He;s been sick for a while and if the vet can't do something for him, it may be time (he's 16 I think).

There must be a sign in front of my house visible only to strays...SUCKERS INSIDE!. I'm such a softie.

PS...his name is NEWT.

Nahhh, it says welcome home.

Nahhh, it says welcome home.

Ooh...I like that much better! Like DVC. :thumbsup2

My mother was giving me "grief" about it. She doesn't know where my penchant for the four footed comes from. None of the rest of my family is remotely interested in anything furry. Me...well...I like animals better than most people.

I'll try to get a picture of Newt tomorrow.

Awwwwww.... anything tiny is soooo cute.

Love the Kletus avatar.

:)I would love to see a picture, I am partial to hounds. I had a Lemon Walker Hound adopt me 9 years ago. Ms. Maggie the smartest, sweetest, most overly dramatic cutie pie you ever did see. I never had a coonhound before and my vet warned me she migh go after my cats, ya right. She thinks she is a cat, still. She had 2 types of mange was on the side of 98 down in FL someone had dumped her she was a night away from death. Good job to you, I don't know you but I like you, Ms. Maggie says "you is a good person, awooooo"

You are such a kind hearted person!:goodvibes

BTW, You should not give milk to a kitten/cat!

Cletus is the nickname we have for our beat up old farm truck. We call the hot-tub "Brandine".

I want your husband. Mine won't let me bring another animal home.

Those strays are very lucky to have found you!!

Seems to be happening all around. I've taken in two strays so far to add to my collection. Am up to 4 large dogs and one scared cat.

Did your vet scan Lilly Belle for a microchip (just to be sure)?

Maybe the person with the kitten is the same one with the dog. When they saw you take that in so lovingly they figured they would try the cat.

You are very kind to do that. I am a sucker for animals too. Thankfully there are not many strays here so it hasn't been an issue. But DH comes home to random dogs awaiting pickup by an owner! He said I should buy my own Microchip reader I'm at the vets so often getting dogs checked. :rotfl2:

Ah, sounds like the fates have decided that the circle of life must be completed. As you lose one old man, you gain a new little guy. :)

Animals seem to find their way to loving homes sometimes. You're a very good & kind person for caring for these 'lost' souls. By the way, it's my experience that the animals you save become the best friends you'd ever want to have. It's fate.

Congrats on your new baby!!! We have so many strays that DH just doesn't seem to care anymore. We have a cat that showed up about 3 years ago. Then about a year and a half ago a little starving cat showed up--she was so thankful that we were feeding her that she gave us 5 kittens that we kept!! In March, a little Bassett Hound/ Black Lab mix showed up starving. Later that week she got Parvo... $458!!! we brought her home from the vets from that and then on Tuesday of the next week, she got bumped by a car....$279, then another $145 when we had to carry her back. All during this time with the dog, we had the rest of the cats spayed/ neutered... $165 each!! In the last week, a grey cat with beautiful blue eyes (well, except that they are crossed) and a little black kitten showed up hungry!!! :scared1: Oh, I forgot to mention that DH is the one that can't stand animals but won't let me give any of these away! They are his babies!!!:lmao:

That was the main reason we brought her to the vet (to be read for a chip). The scan was negative...no chip.

If I lived anywhere near you I'd come by just to give you a great big !!!

Nothing I love more than people who go out of their way to help animals whose "owners" (and I use that term loosely) can't be bothered. :lovestruc

Thank you, from my family, including our rescued Cupcake and Luna!

So glad you are getting to keep Lilly Belle (I was following the other thread since I have a Lilly Belle too!) and Newt sounds adorable. Animals just seem to know who the "good" people are and it looks like you will have two new fur friends for life!

Thank you for being able to care for animals in a way that I can't. BTW,I'm still loving the picture of that little baby!!
