Hi all, Just booked a trip for my wife, 8 year old son and myself. Neither of them have been to any Disney and it's been well over 20 years for me. We are staying at the Caribbean and have the Deluxe Dining Plan. Staying for 5 nights with 4 days in the parks. It will be over our anniversary but this trip is more about my son. Currently we have reservations for Ohana, and Corral Reef. We also plan on doing T-Rex as my son loves dinosaurs. Just looking for things that would make this great for an 8 year old boy. Any good planning sights, or ones to avoid? My sister just got back a few weeks ago, but hers is a family of 8 and all girls except a 15 year old boy. Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the board, this is a great place for tips and planning advice..... Can't help to much for an 8 year old since my son was only 4 on our first trip.... But I can say you will love Ohana's and Coral Reef.

Welcome. I would do a character meal. We like Chef Mickey's or Crystal Palace. We also like to eat at Tepan Edo in Japan. There is also ESPN at Boardwalk.

Your son may enjoy doing the Jedi Academy at Hollywood Studio. He will love the stunt show, believe it is called Lights, Motor, Action at Hollywood Stutios also. We enjoy that as a family. Hope that gives you some ideas.

Maybe Garden Grill? This is located in EPCOT and a great character meal. The original gang greets (Mickey, Pluto, Chip, Dale, etc.).

Mickey's Backyard BBQ and Trail's End are also great, western, "all-american boy" meals. :thumbsup2

If you want a more "entertaining" meal, maybe look into Whispering Canyon? I will not spoil too much but I definitely your kiddo would have a blast. PLus, the food here is spectacular.

Also, if your boy is anything like my little brother, plan on spending a lot of time in Animal Kingdom!

Best of luck! Have a magical trip!

Definitely Chef Mickeys. DS (7.9) loves everything about the contemporary (although we've never actually stayed there). Monorail is a selling point, just cool as it goes through. Do a boat rental ( small personal boats... If I remember right it was $25 for 1/2 hour, but so worth it to drive the boat right out in front of the castle)
Ohana was big too. Don't forget to get dole whip at Poly. Couple of must dos w 8 year old boy... Make sure you sign up at opening of Hollywood Studios studios for Jedi training. At MK, be sure to go to Tom Sawyers Island and just PLAY and do the pirate tutorial before pirate of caribbean. Take time at innovations and enjoy countries at Epcot. Enjoy Downtown Disney too, Lego store is fun, ds loved the " spitting stitch" outside of world of Disney.

Turtle Talk with Crush at The Seas with Nemo is a great kids show, also see Fantasmic at HS, and Festival of the Lion King at AK. For dining, try the Sci Fi at HS, Whispering Canyon at FWL, and the Backyard BBQ.
