Hi all,
My first trip home (BLT) will be coming up soon enough.

Could you please tell me what are some of the things you do to get the room ready for your stay once you arrive?

I have read about running the plates / utensils through the dishwasher and running the jets in the tub with a little bleach / cleaner for 20 minutes to remove the goop.

Any other tips or things I should be aware of on my first trip home?
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! :goodvibes:

All we do is unpack our suitcases and unpack the Owner's Locker, get our snacks set up in the kitchen and our beer in the frig. Oh, and take Pal Mickey and set him up by the TV. Relax and have a great vacation!

We don't do any of that. We unpack and head to the parks. They've already cleaned the room and I'm fine with that.

Thats my take as well. Never had an issue in the past and I dont expect any in the future.

Of course, if I do notice any issues, I plan on bringing it up to Mousekeeping for appropriate resolution.

Thanks all!
From some of these post it makes it sound like we are walking into a dirty place that needs lots of help before the vacation can start.
Washing all of the dishes, cleaning the tub jets, washing the comforters.

I want to drop off the luggage, put the food in the fridge and hit the parks!
Glad to hear many have this experience!

I let the jacuzzi run with some bleach in the water to clean it to my comfort level while we're unpacking. But that's it - I don't rewash the dishes or move comforters or anything like that. I just unpack my Owner's Lockers. :) This involves things like:

  • filling up the Brita pitcher
  • setting out the tray I keep on the kitchen counter ledge as a catch all for room keys, etc
  • putting the maps and schedules we got at check-in on the fridge using magnetic clips - I hate having papers everywhere
  • setting up the wireless router
  • putting away groceries

Knock on wood --- I've never walked into a dirty room or felt I needed to redo what Mousekeeping had just finished. I just put my food in the fridge, my clothes in the drawers, my wine on the counter and tickets in my pocket--then I'm outta there!

After reading posts here on the DIS, I do run a load of dishes through the dishwasher, but that's about it.

We take a 20 second tour to the room to make sure there isn't something grossly wrong, then relax and enjoy.

That's what we do, our quick tour and off we go!

And this is our usually routine for any TS trips outside of DVC. And I've never found anything other than having to call for a new light bulb or batteries for a tv remote.

We mostly just unpack, but I do run a quick check to make sure everything is in order in the kitchen (I've had the experience of having a needed item missing in the past), and then I run a cleaning bath water through the Jacuzzi, and we're good to go. I do check the dishes, but so far haven't needed to run them through the dishwasher.

This is pretty much what we do, as well.

Same here! I do look at the dishes & utensils before I use them but never have seen anything.

I had a coworker who rented a summer beach cottage each year and the first thing they did was run an empty load of laundry with bleach!

Get ice, pour Owner's Locker aged rum, drink until I don't care how clean things are, repeat until I have to get on my return flight.

Now that is a good prep routine!! Just don't sing your pirate songs too loudly in your villa.

I run water and bleach thru the jacquzzi jets once while I'm unpacking the clothes and food. But that's it though. And to tell you the truth, I never thought of doing that til I started reading about it on the boards.

Now I get skeeved if I don't:lmao:

If the dishes and glasses smell clean and newly washed ( I have a nose like a hawk has eyes ;)) then I don't bother washing them.

Have a GREAT trip!

We drive up and usually arrive around 2pm, and up to now other than BWV the villa has always been ready. We, or should I say I, unpack, run the dishes through the dishwasher, unfortuately I have on previous occasions found someone els's lipstick on "clean" glasses. The kids and an appointed adult head to the pool, weather permitting. I visit them at the pool on my way to Winn Dixie for groceries. Shop, head back, I'm "Welcomed Home" for the 2nd time and I love it. Put away groceries and then I fix myself a cocktail, sit on the patio/balcony and wait for the troups to return from the pool. I now run the jacuzzi with a little bleach, before DS(13) uses it since I heard of the possible mold issue. He uses it more than I do!
