First trip - what to wear?

Our first trip will be in June, and my husband and 6 year old son sweat, a lot. I plan on putting them in the moisture wicking, dri fit clothes. I really wanted to do a cute Disney shirt though for my son. Does anyone know if anyone sells anything like a cute shirt through etsy but on the cool wick material? And I'm really confused about shoes. Everything seems to say sneakers, but won't that be hot? Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice!

We went in June of last year and it was VERY hot the entire time. I used Sandals that had arch support and had very thick sneaker like soles. They were more like those Athletic sandals with the straps around the ankles. It supported my feet and dried fast if we got on a wet ride. That could be an alternative to sneakers if you are worried about them being too hot.

I wear Skechers Go-Walk shoes in the parks. (lots of threads on disboards about shoe choices). The Go-Walks keep my feet cool yet protected (vs. sandals) and have a good amount of comfortable cushioning.

Our last 2 trips were in the middle of August, and yep, it's a scorcher. We just try to take it easy as we can, and make out just fine, as I'm sure you will too:)
Happy Planning!

I disagree about sneakers: I have three go to pairs of shoes for Disney and the sneakers always hurt my feet the most. You need support not cushioning for long days.

My son wears Keen sandals and I have a pair of Okulai sandals that are great.

Even as little kids, our boys wore Keen sandals to the parks. Check eBay for deals on barely used kids' pairs. If you decide to stick with tennies, make sure they are broken in, buy the kind with breathable uppers (not leather), and invest in wicking ankle socks. My boys and hubby seesaw between those two options now, and they are things we normally have anyway.

I stick to Keen sandals in the parks as well, but there are whole threads talking about that if you do a search.

I don't know about cute Disney shirts in wicking fabrics, but I'm sure you can find them. I would check Disney store first. Also, Walmart had lots of Avengers wicking things last summer, which is a Disney property, too.

For myself, I invested in wicking bras (Playtex makes an affordable one with and underwire alternative) and wicking skort / shirt sets for our last trip. Those were perfect for me, and I'll be using them again this summer for our Hawaii trip.

I always wear sandals no matter what time if year. My feet do not like be closed in.
Just be sure any shoe/sandal you pick is worn in and comfortable.

My son wears tennis shoes, I wear sandals like Clarks which have loads of support. If you do wear tennis shoes (I'm southern we don't wear sneakers or drink pop or soda) make sure you take at least two pairs, three are better. It is going to rain, guaranteed, you will need at least one day for them to dry out, usually two with the humidity. That's the good thing about sandals, you can splash in the puddles all you want and they will be dry the next day or that day. Even if you do that, take more than one pair, the feet need the different kinds of support. Can't help you with the moisture wicking, my son wears cotton button up shirts and I wear sundresses.

Nike comfort thong sandals are my go to in the parks, but for your t-shirt question, if you can't find a moisture wicking Disney shirt for your son, maybe get a cute iron-on on Etsy and do it yourself. I'm going to do that this summer because I'm very particular about t-shirts.

We're going with athletic sandals for May. A combination of Keens, Tevas, and crocs. We'll probably take tennis shoes along as well in case someone wants them (DS most likely), but I'm not a fan. Socks get hot and if they get wet, stay wet. Yuck.

I bring my sneakers if I need them for some reason, but I wear Teva Tirras most days. Wet socks and sneakers are miserable, so a supportive athletic sandal works best for me.

Shoes that you know you all can walk in all day and not get blisters, sore feet, or leg pain. Oh, and good socks if you wear tennis shoes/sneakers. Quality of socks makes a huge difference for me! Yes, sandals are cooler, but you do need to make sure they have the support each family member needs for the day. I can wear my sandals one day to stay cooler, but for me, I haven't found any that Cana match the sneakers. I find varying my shoes during the trip is best for me, Clothes wise, IMO, something that covers the top of shoulder so you don't have to worry about sunburn, but not the T shirt with sleeves that seem to go to the elbow! Also, while I love a couple of my light weight V neck T shirts, if I don't get enough sun screen on, I regret it in the evening!

Some of the Etsy custom shirt makers may let you send them a shirt to embroider their design on. I've done that before. They'll just have to let you know if the fabric will work.

This!!! The best shoes are the ones that are most comfortable for YOU!! Don't worry about what everyone else wears or recommends. I have flat, narrow feet along with back, knee, and hip issues. As much as I would love to wear sandals all summer long, I have yet to find any that provide the right support for me (and believe me, I've tried all the sandals mentioned in this thread and then some.) I do have a pair of Ecco sandals that I can wear for a few hours or possibly a full day if I'm not on my feet constantly. I take those along to Disney and wear them around the resort, but most of the time (and certainly all of the time I'm in a park) I wear athletic shoes. I take at least 2 different pair -- usually 2 different brands/types -- and switch them out every day so that my feet are supported differently each day. I also wear moisture-wicking socks to keep my feet from feeling hot. Honestly, I wouldn't even care if my feet did feel hot -- I'll take hot feet over painful back/knees/hips any day. The only time I've had my shoes get so wet that my socks actually got wet was when it rained constantly during one of our trips. The quick afternoon showers never seem to soak my shoes enough to get through to the socks (maybe because we tend to duck in to a show or a store during those passing showers). My advice is to take 2 or 3 pair of your most comfortable shoes regardless of whether that's athletic shoes or sandals or a combination of both.

Over the years, I have visited WDW at various times of the year, including August. The only shoes I have ever worn into the parks is walking / running shoes. I wear a runners thin moisture wicking sock (low cut) and my feet have never been uncomfortable or overly hot. I always throw an extra pair of socks into my backpack in case my shoes get really wet. Even if my shoes get wet, they usually dry pretty quick especially with a pair of dry socks on.

I'm sure you're not even considering it, but avoid denim at all costs! It amazes me that people are comfortable in denim shorts.

Quite a few places have cute Disney shirts now: JCPenney, H&M, Kohls, etc. Check them out to see if they have moisture wicking shirts

I think the most important part is the shorts. Try to avoid the dreaded chub rub if you can. Use a body glide stick!

My husband sweats a lot all throughout the year so it doesn't matter what the temperature is, he will sweat. When we go tot Disney World, he just takes an extra shirt with him and changes midway through the day. He will also use my hint of carrying a washcloth in a Ziploc style small bag with him and when he changes his shirt, he will wet the washcloth at the sinks in the mens' room and then wipe off his upper body and exposed legs (in a stall) and replace the cloth into the bag. Really does the trick for him.

He also will wear a bandanna tied around the top of his head at the forehead level, leaving the top of the head uncovered but catching any sweat that will run down his face.

My brother-in-law, who is just like my husband but worse, will put a cooling towels around his neck whenever he goes outside all through the year.

And me? Been married to my husband for 34 years and while he's walking around sweating, I have a pair of thin wool gloves with me since my hands get cold! So, each person does what they need to do to be comfortable.
