First trip need advice on rest room etiquette for DS

Actually, I have seen a woman who apparently had a problem with her "monthly visitor" and was frantically trying to wash her shorts in the sink and dry them with the blow dryer....in her underwear. I actually felt kinda sorry for her. But at least she was in the ladies room, surrounded by somewhat sympathetic ladies. Point being, you never know what to expect in a ladies room. So seeing a topless woman is not a stretch....

Try the women's room closest to Kali rapids or splash mountain. There is pretty much always wet women in there trying to dry and often they are topless with their shirt under the dryer.
To the pp who said they used a companion bathroom to change a diaper there are changing tables in every wens and men's rest room and the baby care area so there is no reason to use a companion bathroom to simply change a diaper

I took my 2 year old son in the animal kingdom companion bathroom because i saw it had a changing table. companion to me meant i was assisting him. yes it has handicap facilities but its not right to discriminate against able bodies.

There are very few companion restrooms in the parks, and for some people, those are the only toilets they are able to use! ABLE to use, not just convenient to use. There is something like 5 of those toilets in the whole of the Magic Kingdom. They are very few in number in all of the parks.

So yes, they really should be left to those who have no choice but to use them if at all possible. For some they are a necessity, not just a convenience.

Having worked for a Swedish company in the past when all toilets were unisex I suspect that I have more liberal views on single sex facilities. Anyway back on topic otherwise I will have to sanction myself

No kidding. There are changing tables in all the restrooms. While it may not be a law, it sure is common courtesy of there are appropriate less restrictive facilities available they should be used.

Take him to the companion restrooms, the baby care center or send him to the men's room. A 9 year old is too old to be in the women's restroom. Or you could escort him into the men's room.

I think this is a subject of controversy but I will do what many have also said and do what I feel is right at the time and if that means whizzing DS into the cubicle with me then so be it, we are visiting in Oct and he will have only been 9 for 6 weeks.

Most people won't have a problem with it if you take him into a stall with you. Or put him in the stall next to yours with strict instructions not to come out before you!

Yep, he's old enough to use the men's room on his own (unless he has some compelling reason that requires supervision, but even then, he should be using the men's room).

Oh my you are upset! A companion rest room is the perfect solution for the scenario being discussed here regardless of you not approving. The restroom is still going to be there for those who need it. They just may have to wait a few minutes for it to be free! Handicapped accessible doesn't guarantee no waiting!

Did you miss the part where there are 5 toilets in the whole of MK for some people to use? 5 toilets total. That is a very small number indeed. If Disney meant them for everyone to use, they would be on the general park map. But they are not. They are only on the map for guests with disabilities. That says something.

I have no problem with someone who needs it using it. Needs it. But most people here just want to use it for convenience sake, and I'm sorry but that is just wrong.

Then you need to take him into the stall with you. Every other female in the womens restroom have the right to their privacy. You can fell better and everyone else can have the privacy they are entitled to if you take him into your stall. Otherwise you are just giving yourself a false feeling of safety. Not much you can do to keep your child safe if you are in a stall with your clothing undone and he is on the other side of the door.

You absolutely should not feel that you have the right to walk around undressed or half undressed in there. If you want privacy lock the stall door. When you are dressed and presentable, come out. And I think a lot of you are forgetting that it's not just the child who has to use the restroom, the mom will as well. Should he be expected to stand outside the women's room waiting for her at 9 years old instead of standing in the PUBLIC restroom? I would not allow a 9 year old to do that.

And by the way, I have a son and a daughter. It would not bother my daughter in the least to see a 9 year old boy in there.

And my 5 year old former foster daughter who would go to pieces seeing a 9 year old who his own mother says looks 11 in a restroom that is designated for her gender. Well she doesn't matter. She's just a girl. She should get over it. Anything for a mom to keep the illusion of protecting her tween.

That's what my dh does when he takes our four year old girl to the bathroom. Oh the horror. He then uses wipes or santizer to "wash" her hands.

I am the mom of a 9 year old and like many others my DS9 would rather "find a bush" (not that he would or I would let him...its a figure of speech) than go with me to the ladies room. Last trip to WDW a woman had her 13 year old son in the ladies room. I know this because at first he was protesting being in the ladies room at 13. He got over his protest real fast when my DDs 15,12 and DD's friend 15 decided to use the facility (they walked in after me). He starting gawking obviously (and flirting) at them. I told my girls to wait. Then, since I can be a stinker, I pretended to look around for a sign asking if this was the ladies room. The mom gave me a dirty look and left. NOw I am not saying the OPs son would do that but even my sheltered son is starting to blush when he sees a pretty girl.

Would she "go to pieces" seeing a 9 year old outside the restroom? What's the difference? It's a boy. He should be fully dressed, as should she. If my 5 year old went "to pieces" over that, I'd tell her to knock it off and not be such a drama queen. I don't feed into such nonsense.
