We got back 8/30 from our first trip home to the VWL (we had made our first DVC trip this April to HH and loved it). After 4 nights at that other park, we spent 5 nights at the VWL. We had a dedicated 2-bedroom which was really nice. My 3 kids commented on how much it reminded them of HH. We got a couple of "Welcome Homes" but we only saw 1 other lime green ribbon there. Everything went great. We spent one day at TL, 2 at MK, one at MGM and one at Epcot. The weather was warm, and not too much rain (although the night we went to see Fantasmic, it was rained out). The crowds were very managable, lots of people from England and other countries. While we were there it was my DS 9th birthday, and he wanted to spend that day at Epcot. Epcot does have birthday buttons at guest services. For his birthday dinner he chose Le Cellier, which was great. They did not charge us for his dinner, and at the end they brought out a delicious birthday cake that was decorated with Maple Leaf cookies. When we got back to our room there was another wonderful chocolate birthday cake (with his name on it) with lots of chocolate shavings around it and a birthday card with an autographed photo of Mickey.

We had never been to WDW in the summer, so we wanted to try Mickey's Backyard BBQ. This was the only thing I would have done differently. While the CM's were great there, it was VERY noisy, hot and crowded. They spend a lot of the evening lining up the characters for autograph sessions. This was not my idea of the way to spend a dinner. I prefer the HDD much more. We also had dinner at the Brown Derby which we love. Cannot get enough of that Cobb Salad, even my kids who pick everything out of their salad loved it.

I was able to get breakfast ressies for CRT for all the days we were there, and I cancelled the ones we didn't use. My DD (5) loved it. I thought the food was good. I really liked the cheese stuffed french toast and those potatoes.

The next time we go all of us were commenting on how we would like to spend less times in the parks, and more just relaxing around the hotel. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

No questions, but glad you had a great time!

Not much longer for us!! I'm driving my DH nuts! He said when I asked him, that I hadn't talked too much about our upcoming trip today!!

VMS,
We were there 8/23~8/30. (3528)
It was our first trip to VWL and we loved it.
On arrival @ VWL, I thought "so much walking!" but we were exhausted by an early AM flight. It was no so bad after a good night sleep.
We had a great time. We will make rezzies for next year one week earlier (A.P.s)
We always go in Aug. Crowds not bad. Hot but we pace ourselves. Just cannot take the kids out of school anymore.

Thanks for your report. Sounds like a fun trip.

VMS,

Oooh, your report is a dream come true. We are going to VWL (our home resort) for a 4 day weekend at the end of September. While there it will be our DD's 4th birthday. Did you order the cake that was waiting in your room? And from whom? And I would LOVE to have her get an autographed picture of her BELOVED MINNIE MOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions, hints????

Thank you for this post!

Laura

I just let them know when we made our reservation that it was his birthday, and then at check-in I checked that it had been noted. I also let them know at Le Cellier when we made the reservations. We were eating plenty of cake! Have a great trip.

VMS,

You didn't ORDER the cake that was waiting in your room with the Mickey picture? The hotel just took it upon themselves to do that???? How cool is that? Now THAT'S a story for all those VWL bashers to hear ;) !

Did you let the hotel directly know when you first made the ressies or just member services?

Laura

I just got our confirmation for our VWL stay next June.

We did a VWL add-on last fall, and DH and I stayed there last December. It was great.

Our June trip will be the first time in 10 years that our kids will be staying at a resort other than OKW. I'm looking forward to sharing a whole new DVC experience with them.

It's great to hear these wonderful reports.

I just let member services know when I made the ressies. I did notice that when we checked in they made a note of it and wrote it down on a piece of paper. When we were called to be seated at Le Cellier, a whole group of waiters/waitresses greeted us at the front and sang Happy Birthday to my DS before we were seated.

Glad you had such a great trip! After multiple stays at WL, we were finally able to purchase @ VWL. We're also looking to spend more time relaxing at the resort. Isn't it great!

Our May trip was to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, (I probably mentioned it to MS when I booked) and casually mentioned it when we checked in. A small but sinfully decadent chocolate cake was left in the room that afternoon for the two of us. This also happened about 6 years ago when we were at WL for celebrating his birthday.

Thanks for such a great report on VWl. We are going home 1st time in Dec to our home there at VWL and will be there for our 9 yr old DD birthday so thanks for the heads up about the cake. That would be such a wonderful surprise to her.
Glad to hear yall had such a great time!

When I made PS for LeCellier, I mentioned to them it was for the celebration of our wedding anniversary. It was just the 2 of us. We were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" from every staff member we came in contact with. Denise, our server was wonderful. She brought a large dessert plate with a huge piece of fudge cake and a happy anniversary written in chocolate along the lip of the plate. We had a wonderful meal and felt very special.
