Okay, here’s my dilemma. Myself, my husband, my mother in law and my 2 children , boy 3, and girl 5 will be visiting WDW for 5 days in May. Due to having 3 adults, we have narrowed our choices to staying at a deluxe resort or getting two rooms at a moderate resort. (I know Port Orleans – Riverside could accommodate us, but just with double beds and my husband and I would like at least a queen.) I do have a hold on a tower room at the Contemporary, as it seems the most convenient; can see MK for my daughter and has the monorail for my son who LOVES all cars, trucks, etc. The moderate would be a couple hundred cheaper, gives my husband and myself our own room, but there’s a chance the rooms won’t be together and am a bit worried about the convenience of getting around (esp. with little ones) from the moderates. We will have our van, but are not thinking we want to drive all over the place, and don’t really know what to expect from the buses. Also wondering if it is more fun to stay at a more themed resorted than the Contemporary? So, which option do I pick? If you say stay with Contemporary, why? If you say the moderate resort – which one? I just can’t seem to choose. Just to help you help me – we mainly want to see MK and MGM, we will have our van, my husband and I want to go out alone in the evenings (where is good for this?), we aren't too worried about beach/pool time as we will be going to Marco Isalnd from Disney for a couple of days, and I am open to totally new options! Please help!

I don't know what your budget is, but you can rent points from a DVC member and stay at a deluxe for much cheaper than if you rented direct through Disney. You can rent points for about 10.00/point. There is a point calculator on this site http://www.wdwinfo.com/resort/dvcpoint.cfm that can tell you how many points you'd need.
Go to the Disney Vacation Club Form here for lots more info!

You can still ride the monorail even if you aren't staying at a monorail resort. We usually ride the loop a few times just for fun, we think of it as an added attraction.

I would go with two rooms at a moderate, especially since you have a car. Disney transportation will be great to the parks, and you can use your car to get to the harder to reach places such as other resorts and Downtown Disney. I have heard good things about all the moderates, so I think it really just depends on which theme you like better. We stayed at POR and thought it was really nice.

Also, I would try some of the restaurants at the other resorts since you have a car and it will be easier to get there. I have heard really good things about Boma and Jiko at the AKL eventhough we haven't tried them yet.

I am sure other people will give you lots of other good suggestions. Enjoy your trip!
