In response to OP's initial post, and based on personal experience, I don't think there is anything wrong with seeing how it goes the first day before requesting a GAC. We have 3 kids and took them on their first WDW trip at ages 3, 4 & 6. The oldest is autistic, non-verbal yet loud, very active and adventurous. Did my research on here prior to the trip so I knew GAC was available.
As a whole my family was not willing to wait to get on any attraction with a wait more than 20 minutes long so we took advantage of FPs and that worked very well for us. We discovered that our autistic son did as well or even better than neurotypical kids waiting in lines. We had a table service meal everyday and the restaurant staff was very accommodating to our son's dietary needs and behavioral quirks. IMO, I think not getting the GAC allowed my husband and I to learn more about our son on that trip than if we had used one.
We go on our next trip in December when our son will be 8 and we plan on feeling out the first day or 2 again with him. We don't know if we'll need a GAC, but open to the possibility if it means the difference between an enjoyable family vacation or one that is stressful.
Hope your upcoming stay is magical
