First Trip and Magic Band question

For our group of 7, it was gonna cost close to a $100 for the extra FPs using this hack. And since we really only wanted more FPs at MK, we took that into account. We also read about it in detail, and decided it was gaming the system which led to other people not receiving the FPs that they might have more right to than us. Given the expense, the fact that it really only made sense in one park, and the guilt associated, we decided not to participate in this.

Regarding the OP, there is a number on the back of the band. You just type it into MDE to link it up.

I wonder if it really is a huge percentage getting double FPs by doing this. You only get free MBs with staying there I think. The last time we stayed there was before all this so we don't have them yet. But I'll probably order them from the Disney Store sometime. Just wondering, do MBs come with a room only reservation?

this was so much easer explanation then the post about how to do it that I briefly looked over just now. not sure if it is worth it for me to try it or not but I do go to disney enough that I could do this.
There are several different "ways" to do it and yes, that post was VERY confusing though I get the gist. I've thought about it myself but I just don't know if its worth the headache. I've planned out my days already and with my travel party (my parents and my two young sons) it just might be too much work. I actually already have 1 band that would work...my 2 yr old's band because he has no ticket media attached. But 1 isn't going to get me far. I'll probably skip it this time....

Only if you link ticket media to your MDE acct. But you don't have to buy the tickets through Disney. We bought ours through Park Savers.

I totally agree, its not worth it in your situation, but like the OP, when we went we had already decided to get character MBs. So after we bought them we registered them to a new MDE account and we were able to get extra FPs at the kiosks in the parks and used the "free" MBs for advanced FPs, park entrance, room access and charging. We had the best luck with the new MBs (FP availability wise) at the MK. There wasn't much available at EP and HS. I think we did get a few at AK.

One other advantage, now we have two sets for all future trips.

So I think I have this right if I want to do this but the magic band that comes with the room you can still book FP on it either 30 or 60 days depending on here you are staying

You are not booking fastpasses "on" a magic band. You are booking fastpasses because you have ticket entitlements in your MDE account. Those you access with a magic band.

If you want to get extras, you must have a band or card that is linked to a DIFFERENT MDE profile from the one where you have the FP reserved.

What you say is essentially correct but as @subtchr says the Fastpasses are not on the MB. The MB that they send you for free is a way to access your MDE account that has a ticket associated with it and that ticket allows you to book 30/60 days in advance.

When you buy an additional MB that has no ticket associated with it and is registered to a different MDE, it can then be used at the in-park kiosks to book FP. This different MDE has no ticket, so no advanced FP.

I still don't like the whole concept and will avoid buying them for as long as possible of course. Not to mention the price for all family who go even sometimes would mount up

Then don't buy them. Ever. Use old cards instead. Unless you still don't believe they will work the same as a band.

Almost nothing good comes of openly trying to cheat the MDE system like using MB hacks, imo....

Cards might be good enough, especially since I gather that even before what's written on the card has been used it's possible to use stuff assigned (entitled) to the card/account
