Me. Paul. 34. Chief planner and taxi driver. Scared and excited at the thought of the big coasters.
DS9. Paul (now called junior for the sake of this report). Absolutely bursting at the thought of Disney. As scared as his dad of the coasters but isn't showing it (yet).
Dad. 60 something. Doesn't know how he is going to handle 9 hours without a cigarette!
Brother. John. 45. Possibly the most excited of us all. Definitely looking forward to meeting Mickey.
Day 5 - Monday 18th June 2007
At last, we had managed to rope dad into visiting a park with us. Today was Seaworld and I was really looking forward to it!
We got ready early doors and were on our way out of the hotel by 8:40. Made our way up Palm Parkway (a much more sedate route to North of LBV than I4
) and got parked up in Seaworld around 9:10am. Had a funny moment when we were driving through the car park and there was many signs saying 'Please keep quiet', etc. Then, in the queue to get parked, all of a sudden we heard lots of horns honking!! Remarking how disrespectful people were, we then seen the cause of the commotion - a guy holding a sign saying 'Honk if you love whales' - and he made sure he got you to honk loud!
We parked up close to the entrance and made our way into the park. We took a walk over to see the flamingos;
After spending some time here, we walked slowly up towards Dolphin Cove, something I had been really looking forward to. We stopped on the way to buy a spray fan for John and junior and had a quick look at the Sting Rays. We then made our way over to the dolphin area, hoping to maybe catch a glimpse of them. We ended up getting a bit more than a glimpse
I couldn't believe it, but I actually got to pet one!! There were loads of people standing at the side, before the feeding (when you were asked to stand back a bit) and everyone had their hand in the water, trying to entice a dolphin up. After about 5 mins, one of them came right out of the water up to my face, and sat there for a good few seconds - long enough for me to get a good stroke of it! I couldn't believe it, it was really amazing, and a very special moment. My dad caught it just as it was leaving my hand, but I haven't got the pic from him yet.
Im not really worried about the photo though, the memory is what matters. Which is just as well as, knowing my dad, the pic will surely be blurry lol!
After this, we decided we really needed to get something to eat so we headed back down towards the entrance to the Cypress Bakery. On the way, I managed to convince dad to hire a wheelchair and that I would push him around, as we were going round the park at a snail's pace. Once we got the wheelchair, we grabbed some breakfast (apple danish, coffee and Tropicana fruit punch for me, for around $7 - very reasonable) and met these unofficial 'residents';
This one in particular was very brave!;
Happy that we could now tackle the park at a better pace, we decided to take a walk around and explore the park a little. After about an hour of wandering around aimlessly (I found it very difficult to find my way around Seaworld at first for some reason - the layout seemed a bit awry at first, although I soon got used to it) we stumbled upon the arena where they have the Clyde and Seamore show, which was just filling up, so we decided to catch it while we had the chance. Desperate to get away from the heat, we made the mistake of sitting at the bottom of the arena, right under the glaring sun. It was an absolute scorcher of a day.
The show itself was brilliant. We only caught about 5 minutes of the mime artist, but he had us in stitches nonetheless;
This guy certainly seemed to be enjoying himself;
