Me. Paul. 34. Chief planner and taxi driver. Scared and excited at the thought of the big coasters.

DS9. Paul (now called junior for the sake of this report). Absolutely bursting at the thought of Disney. As scared as his dad of the coasters but isn't showing it (yet).

Dad. 60 something. Doesn't know how he is going to handle 9 hours without a cigarette!

Brother. John. 45. Possibly the most excited of us all. Definitely looking forward to meeting Mickey.

Day 5 - Monday 18th June 2007

At last, we had managed to rope dad into visiting a park with us. Today was Seaworld and I was really looking forward to it!

We got ready early doors and were on our way out of the hotel by 8:40. Made our way up Palm Parkway (a much more sedate route to North of LBV than I4 ;) ) and got parked up in Seaworld around 9:10am. Had a funny moment when we were driving through the car park and there was many signs saying 'Please keep quiet', etc. Then, in the queue to get parked, all of a sudden we heard lots of horns honking!! Remarking how disrespectful people were, we then seen the cause of the commotion - a guy holding a sign saying 'Honk if you love whales' - and he made sure he got you to honk loud!

We parked up close to the entrance and made our way into the park. We took a walk over to see the flamingos;

After spending some time here, we walked slowly up towards Dolphin Cove, something I had been really looking forward to. We stopped on the way to buy a spray fan for John and junior and had a quick look at the Sting Rays. We then made our way over to the dolphin area, hoping to maybe catch a glimpse of them. We ended up getting a bit more than a glimpse ;)

I couldn't believe it, but I actually got to pet one!! There were loads of people standing at the side, before the feeding (when you were asked to stand back a bit) and everyone had their hand in the water, trying to entice a dolphin up. After about 5 mins, one of them came right out of the water up to my face, and sat there for a good few seconds - long enough for me to get a good stroke of it! I couldn't believe it, it was really amazing, and a very special moment. My dad caught it just as it was leaving my hand, but I haven't got the pic from him yet.

Im not really worried about the photo though, the memory is what matters. Which is just as well as, knowing my dad, the pic will surely be blurry lol!

After this, we decided we really needed to get something to eat so we headed back down towards the entrance to the Cypress Bakery. On the way, I managed to convince dad to hire a wheelchair and that I would push him around, as we were going round the park at a snail's pace. Once we got the wheelchair, we grabbed some breakfast (apple danish, coffee and Tropicana fruit punch for me, for around $7 - very reasonable) and met these unofficial 'residents';

This one in particular was very brave!;

Happy that we could now tackle the park at a better pace, we decided to take a walk around and explore the park a little. After about an hour of wandering around aimlessly (I found it very difficult to find my way around Seaworld at first for some reason - the layout seemed a bit awry at first, although I soon got used to it) we stumbled upon the arena where they have the Clyde and Seamore show, which was just filling up, so we decided to catch it while we had the chance. Desperate to get away from the heat, we made the mistake of sitting at the bottom of the arena, right under the glaring sun. It was an absolute scorcher of a day.

The show itself was brilliant. We only caught about 5 minutes of the mime artist, but he had us in stitches nonetheless;

This guy certainly seemed to be enjoying himself;

We then took some refuge from the sun in the penguin enclosure before heading up to the hospitality tent for our free glass of bud. Thirst suitably quenched, we decided to just grab some lunch while we were here, in the hospitality deli. The Roast Beef sandwiches we had in here were superb! They are a little pricey at $7, but they're not just any old sandwich - definitely well worth it.

Whilst there, we noticed some neighbours enjoying a free lunch;

Distinct lack of table manners there.....

Well fed and watered, we decided to take a stroll to the lagoon area. We seen one of the whales in the underwater viewing area (not sure who :confused: );

then we made our way over and caught the next showing of Pets Ahoy. This is a really cute little show, we all really enjoyed it. It also raised a big laugh with the 'Can you do this Shamu?' stunt - we laughed about it for the rest of the holiday and beyond.

After the show, we decided we should make our way up to the Shamu stadium, as the 2 previous showings that day had filled up well before the show was due to start. We got to the stadium with about 20 mins to spare, but it was already close to capacity, and settled down to watch what was a very enjoyable show;

It was around 4:30 by the time the show finished, so we all decided to head home as we were starting to tire a little. Having the wheelchair was good in that we covered 10 times more ground than we would have without it, but I was absolutely bushed by this time and was looking forward to getting some rest before our dinner this evening at OHanas.

Back at the hotel, we saw our first ever Floridian thunderstorm, which is indeed a sight to behold. The rain was absolutely lashing down and it looked like OHanas would have to be cancelled. Thankfully, the rain settled down to only a deluge and, more importantly, it looked driveable so we decided we would go ahead with it as we had been really looking forward to this dinner.

We got to the Polynesian although unfortunately we couldn't really have a look around the grounds - we could barely see a couple of feet in front of us! I got so soaked in a 10 yard dash from the car to shelter that I had to dry off in the bathroom! :eek: Our dinner was booked for 8:10pm, in anticipation of the fireworks being at 9. As it happened, we didn't actually get seated til 9:10 which worked out quite well, as the fireworks weren't until 10!

The meal was very enjoyable, although the atmosphere can best be desribed as 'rowdy'. Definitely not the place for an intimate dinner. The food was beautiful - different kinds of barbecued meats, lots of vegetables, etc. The bill came to $104 for the four of us, which included 2 rounds of drinks so it was quite reasonable. We gave them $130.

Some photos to finish off the day;

The one good pic I got of OHanas

A couple of photos of Wishes, which worked out not too bad considering they were taken behind a window about 2 miles from the fireworks;

The rain had stopped when we left, and we made our way back to the hotel for a nightcap, before hitting the sack around 1am.

Tomorrow - Universal Studios and TNA Wrestling

Great report, i love SW! O'hanas looks great, we are trying it for the first time this trip!:)

another great day Paul, I love the pets ahoy show and think its one of the most underated shows, its sooo clever. Also love Clyde and Seymour and, of course, Shamu.
Glad your day at Seaworld was so memorable.

I have a pic somewhere of those "neighbours" with bad table manners having a drink of Amber Bock, did mae me laugh- A bird who likes a mans drink! ;) ;)

Fantastic! :goodvibes

Are the flamingoes at the start of the park, I don't remember them. I :love: flamingoes!

A lovely day at Seaworld, Paul. Your pictures are fantastic, I especially enjoyed looking at the dolphin ones. Pleased that you made your dinner reservation despite the weather - I love those Florida rain storms!

Laur's princess:

really enjoying your reports (the wait between them are worth it!).

Great photos.

Susan

Keep the reports coming Captain - we're really enjoying them.
Thanks for all the nice comments everyone :)

Sorry its took so long to get the next day up. My dad bought a caravan in Ayr and we have been down there for the past 10 days or so, making the most of it as its been booked out for the rest of the year so this was our only chance.

I only got home an hour ago and have to get stuff ready for work, etc but I will definitely post day 6 tomorrow :thumbsup2

look forward to checking it out later to see if you done it
