We just returned from a first trip to Disney and stayed at WL. Everything for the most part was great, with a few minor complaints.
At check-in, they gave us (unsolicited) a room "upgrade" to a pool view room. Reservation was for a woods view room. If I return, I will definitely ask for the woods view. The pool noise kept my daughter awake at night. Also, right before the pool closed each night, they loudly played a medley of songs on the pool's loudspeakers. Quite annoying!
We also cancelled our PS at the Whispering Canyon and ate at the pricier restaurant at WL. Whispering Canyon was an unintentional misnomer as it was way too loud after a busy day at the parks. CMs at the cafe were actively encouraging kids to scream, yell, and participate loudly in whatever the CMs had cooked up. You could hear this all throughout the lobby and it was just too much for us. Dinner at the other restaurant was wonderful - great food and service and we had no wait even though we didn't have PS there.
Pool was lovely, though water was too warm for my tastes. Felt like bathwater. Then, again, I've always preferred pool temp to be a bit cooler rather than warmer - just my preference.
All in all, WL was a great experience. Next time, we'll try another resort just to experience something different, but I will definitely return to WL at some point.
