First timer -questions, questions

This will be be my first time to California and I am bringing my mom (a young 70 year old) and my 18 year old son for a spring break trip. We will be flying into Burbank airport and want to find a nice hotel the first night that would be close to Universal Studios and close to some sights around Hollywood. We would only be there one night and then we will then go onto Disneyland for 3 days and finally San Diego for the last 2 days.

So any hotel suggestions near Universal that are not too expensive but very safe, clean and convenient? I will pay a little more for safe, clean and close to sights since I will be in charge of these two wonderful people.

I've stayed at the Universal Hilton and that was ok, but if I were to stay in that area again I'd like to try the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn.

Will you have a car?

Burbank Best Western has rooms large enough for 3 persons, there is also the Annabelle hotel in Burbank , A Holiday Inn and a new Residence Inn. Easy drive to Universal and Hollywood, or you can take the city bus.

i just booked with magic castle hotel. i originally booked with the beverly garland holiday inn, but there is no fridge, mixed reviews about the place. magic castle is near the hollywood/highland center, and also near the red line metro. i have not stayed there before, this will be my first time, but there are far more positive reviews on this place (free breakfast, 24 hour pool, excellent customer service).

Hotel Celebrity is fine, clean....but the area of Hollywood would not be my pick of areas to stay with a small-town 70 year old. Lots of bizarros in the area if you get my drift. You know your mom better than I do, but I wouldn't stay there with MY mom, she's just too easily "shocked".
