First timer question

Hi everyone! I just discovered this site--looks great and I can't wait to explore! Here's my question:

DH and I are wanting to surprise our 3 kids with a cruise for Christmas 2004, and are hoping to do a Disney cruise. We're trying to figure out the most economical way of doing it, especially since we've just discovered that the "special" cruise for the Magic next Christmas season is a 10 day cruise. We also prefer the idea of two separate rooms, basically one for the kids and one for us, rather than a family suite. Would it be possible (and would it be cheaper) to reserve two rooms side-by-side, rather than a suite?

Yes, you can get 2 side by side or adjoining rooms. Technically, there has to be one adult in each room, but realistically, they don't enforce this beyond the booking. It depends totally on the season and the categories you are looking at, but it is frequently cheaper to get two category 10 or 11 rooms rather than one category 4 suite. You can check prices at www.disneycruise.com Another advantage of 2 rooms is that you double the bathrooms. You also might want to check out the "secret porthole" rooms where you get an outside stateroom for the price of a category 10. Several of these are adjoining rooms. Welcome to DIS! My family will be on the 10 day cruise. We sure hope you can join us! We have a nice thread going on the cruise meet page (at the top of this board). Unfortunatly, I think the "secret porthole" cat 10s are all booked for this cruise. I know that at least two or three are taken by people on our cruise thread. My family is going with my in-laws, and we've booked adjoining cat 10s on deck 2. Our first two cruises were on deck 7, so we're wait listed for a higher deck. But any room on the Magic is wonderful, so I won't be disappointed if we stay where we are.

And to answer your specific question, for the 10 day sailing, it should definitely be cheaper to do 2 rooms, especially if at least 1 of your kids is over 12 (Disney charges the adult price for kids 13 and older). If all your kids are under 12, you should do the comparison to see if it's cheaper to go with a suite, paying 2 adults, and the rest kid prices, or with 2 rooms, paying for 4 adults (minimum 2 adults per room).
