First Timer just back - some observations/thoughts

Wow! Great info! I am so glad to know AK is the park to visit in the rain. What would be the second choice to visit if it's raining?

Thanks!

I would also recommend the World Showcase. Even when it pours, and in August it pours like all get-out, you can wander around the various countries to your heart's content. The outdoor shows may not be performing such as my all-time favorite Off-Kilter when it's raining, but the US, Canada, France and China have movies of their respective countries, Mexico and Norway have indoor boat rides, you can pick-a-pearl in Japan (and try a kaki gori while you're at it), have brats and beer (or whatever) in Germany, sample some Moroccan food, wander the little shops in the UK, keel over dead when you see the price tags on those gorgeous hand-painted ceramic items (masks, anyone??) in Italy, there's tons of stuff. We spend hours and hours and hours at the World Showcase.

We were also in the parks at approximately the same time.

My niece and nephew, who are both young, enjoyed the Kidcot pavilions tremendously. They also enjoyed going on the Kimpossible missions. We did 2 missions, one took us to Japan and one to the UK. They were great, and I'd love doing more of them.

We left on the afternoon of 12/4, and spent the morning in Downtown Disney, dashing from store to store in the rain. The rain kept people away, I believe, so it wasn't crowded at all.

"Just back" and other trip report threads are better suited for the Trip Reports board, so I've moved this thread off the Attractions and Strategies board. :)

Thank you all for your kind words.

Except, of course, now I'm really regretting that we did DHS as planned on 12/4 the day it rained instead of going to AK. But, our reasoning was that if it let up, we'd get to see F!. F! wasn't showing the next day, so we thought it better to try to stick with our plans. Also, my UG book was not the most recent version, and it said the Nemo show was in an "open air" theater. I've learned since that has changed. I will say that there were also tons of "indoor" things to do at DHS. The 3-D muppet show, mermaid show, playhouse disney, the movie ride, etc.

I know some of you made it to F! despite the rain, (and I'm glad they still ran the 2nd show for those of you that were there!) but with two little kids who had already been in the rain for 5 straight hours, enough was enough. I can only subject my kids to cold and dampness for so long, you know? It was heartbreaking, and I did cry a little bit that night (down in the lobby away from my family.) :sad2:

Anyway, I can't wallow in the "shoulda, woulda, couldas." I do appreciate being able to come on here and share. It's somewhat therapeutic for me. :goodvibes

DH is not ready to plan a next time, but I secretly am planning on 2012 when the renovations to Fantasyland are done. By then, my kids will be older and we can also try Epcot again. :thumbsup2
