I just wondered if there were games that the kids could play for prizes?

Yes...

This is a pet peeve of mine thought I don't like seeing midway games in WDW.

There are several in the Dino Rama section in Animal Kingdom. They have a water racing game, wack a mole, and a few others.

The Boardwalk has carnival type games, they are usually open late afternoon/evening. AK has carnival games in the dino area, pay to play with the typical prizes.

Disney likes you to spend your money outright in the shops. Remember that you can have your items sent to your resort if you stay on property. That way, you can enjoy the parks hands-free.

I also am not the biggest fans of the midway type games at WDW. To me they represent a normal theme park (not to mention I love as well), but when I come to Disney and see them I think it contradicts with Walt's whole idea of not a typical theme park. To me it sort of erases the illusion. But just my opinion... :)

I think it is great that Disney offers this option to folks who want it. Those who don't can just elect to not patronize these offerings, similar to how some guests elect not to patronize loud music in Canada, or thrill rides at the end of Sunset Boulevard in D-MGM.

And nothing screams "normal theme park" more than a roller coaster. I feel the midway games at WDW are "themed" just as much as the thrill rides.

As folks have mentioned, AK is the only FL park that has them inside the gates. At AK, that subsection of dinoland seems like a caricature of a "normal" roadside amusement park. Ever notice the parking lot lines painted underfoot? Those were added only for the Chester/Hester theme. After having been to several Six Flags parks with rides built on top of reclaimed, but not repainted, parking lots, I thought that was pretty funny. ;)

In CA, DCA has them, but there they are completely without irony---much to many rabid Disney fans' displeasure.

I think a lot of folks miss all the thematic nuances like that.

The only places I've noticed those types of games were at the Animal Kingdom and on the Boardwalk.

Enjoy.

indeed I hate that part of the AK

As Bicker has said it fits with the theam and the CM's are very nice in giving extra tries on some of the things .

Disney most of the time never leaves out the details of their theaming and this is a fit for them as well ,Dino area is a carnival setting,BWI/V well it's a boardwark, and the area in CA is also southern cali boardwalk so thats why they are there.

I think this is just what Walt invisioned with buying of WDW area is just none stop good theaming putting you in every world and place at it's best showing.

They also have regular Arcades in most resorts and SM exit as well.

It's not exactly a carnival like game....but right outside the Jungle Cruise there are these little toy boats that you can move around on the water. It's not too expensive and kids do like them.

That's really it.... presenting everything that people may possibly want to do, even miniature golf, "at its best showing".
