I'm new to this forum, and I'm already loving the advice/helpful tips!

We're taking my DDs (ages 6 & 2) to Disney June 12-19, staying at Wilderness Resort. It will be my 4th time, my DH's 2nd (we honeymooned there) and my girls' first trip. My DD6 turns 7 while we're there. Couple of questions for this experienced group:

1) What can we expect for weather in early June?
2) Any suggestions for can't-miss activities/attractions for my DD2

Finally, we haven't told the girls about the trip yet - partly so DD6 doesn't drive me insane until then. I'm considering three options:

a) having a small b-day party with just family the week before and suggesting travel and/or Disney related gifts and revealing it then;
b) telling her the morning we get up to go (Wake UP!! We're going to Disneyworld!);
c) asking for a card from the Fairy Godmailer.

Any thoughts/opinions/other suggestions?

Many thanks,
Kara

I am from PA and the heat & humidity at WDW really get to me, probably because it's usually pretty cool & dry here. So my body is always shocked by Florida's humidity levels, and the way it makes heat feel about 30% hotter there to me.

We're in northern WV (about an hour SW of Pittsburgh) so our weather is probably much like yours. Humidity will likely be a problem for us too.

Hadn't thought about the drink issue...duh!

Can you purchase a refillable drink container and have it filled for free at the parks? If not, perhaps I'll pack us some and we can at least hit the water fountains.

I'm thinking of shipping a box of supplies in advance (diapers, nonperishable snacks, etc.) to the hotel, so we won't be totally at the mercy of the hotel shop.

Welcome! It is going to be hot, but you will have a wonderful time!!! If you are staying at the Wilderness Lodge, my advice would be to bring lots of change. My 2 year old became immediately obsessed with the bubbling brook by the elevators and begged for pennies to throw in every time we walked by it. As for shipping stuff to the resort, you should check out gardengrocer.com. They can deliver stuff to your resort the day you check in. We used them and it was so much easier then trying to cart diapers wipes etc., and so nice for DD to have the snacks she was used to. There are small refrigerators in the rooms at WL. As for can't misses for the 2 year old, there were so many things DD loved. At MK, the absolute biggest hits for DD were Small World and the Peter Pan ride. I can't tell you how many times she wanted to ride those. Her biggest thing by far at all the parks were the characters. She loved them. She wanted to meet every one she saw. The character meals were a big hit. A Princess meal might be really fun for your girls. The Nemo ride was a big hit at Epcot as was all of World Showcase mostly because there were lots of Princesses to meet back there. At DHS the Toy Story Mania ride was a big hit. My 2 year old loves shows, so at DHS the Beauty and Beast and Little Mermaid and Muppet shows were big hits. My biggest suggestion would be to teach the 2 year old who all the characters are before you go. We watched some of the tamer movies ahead of time, but we taught her who all the characters were with little board books and little golden books. That made her so excited when she saw them at WDW. She got so much more out of her trip because it was her books, movies and characters coming to life.
