First Time to Universal

We are possibly making our 1st trip to Universal Studios this spring. We have been to WDW multiple times and would now like to take our 2 boys (age 9 & 7) to Universal Studios.

I need hotel recommedations. I would like somewhere that is reasonably priced with nice, clean rooms, a nice pool and complementary breakfast. We will be driving, so a free shuttle is not necessary, but would be a great plus.

Also, where would you purchase your Universal tickets? Off of the Universal Studios website?

You can check out the Major Blvd. hotels. None of the onsite hotels offer complimentary breakfast.

I just booked a package off the universal web-site.
I did a 4 night Harry Potter package with a room at the Double Tree. From what I have heard it is a 10 minute walk to Universal's gates. I did a 4 day flex ticket.

this hotel has shuttle service but I am not 100% sure about the free breakfast.

This may be what the poster above was talking about, but I just received an offer, I believe its 4 nights at one of the Universal partner hotels, Doubletree is one of them, for a family of 4, with park tickets, for about $850. That's not a bad deal really for tickets and hotel, they may have this same deal on the website.

We are also going to Universal and we booked out trip through a travel agent but we could have gotten the same deal on the Universal website under packages. We are only going to stay for 1 full day with 2 nights stay as we will also be visiting Disney for 6 days before that.

I have two boys the exact same age as yours (7 and 9)....since we only get one day do you have a recommendation as to which park to hit (we did not get the park hopper).
