Hello all...we are heading to Hawaii and Aulani this November. I found nonstop roundtrip tickets from Newark NJ for $856 per person. Is this good? Flight is not even half full yet. I keep filling out the information page and then I just stare at the screen like a deer in headlights! Any thoughts are welcome.

Thank you!
Melissa

That is a good price. Especially for a direct flight. I was pricing flights from EWR to HNL a couple of months ago and I remember seeing a couple that were a bit lower (around $800), but depending on your dates $50 might not be too big a swing.

Google flights is helpful if you're trying to get an idea of potential costs because you can click on the calendar and see what other dates are going for.

Thank you! I was figuring over $1000 each with a layover..so it seemed good to me. Just wanted to bounce it off here and see what others think.

Bottom line I've spent about 1200.00 many times whether a direct flight or with one connection out of Newark.
Not bad if that includes all taxes etc. Take a look at flights out of Phila. sometimes you can do better.

You could also look using 30th Street Station's airport code - ZFV. I don't know why, but there are "flights" that include a train ticket from 30th Street to EWR. When I was looking these were actually cheaper than just the flight from EWR. I read on a couple of travel blogs that some people had success getting the train part cancelled and still keeping the flight, but it was pretty hit or miss - with some people saying you couldn't use the airline tickets if you didn't actually take the train from 30th street. I'm in Philly and since there are no direct flights from here to HNL, the train ticket works out well for me. It may not for you based on where you are/your times, but it's something to keep in mind.

That's a good price! Lowest I've found was $670/pp from Newark but that was 5 years go. Last year I spent $1000/pp. This year we booked at $880/pp -- All summer fares, direct from Newark. So prices bounce around alot.

I've seen 540s from Boston pretty often. Mid 600s is routine. I'd hold out. I get fare alerts every few days and the fares are so often that low that I'd never pay 800s.

I booked last November for this September and while we didn't choose the flights with the Newark connection, it was about the same price - we paid $900pp round trip.

That is exactly what we paid for the non-stop from jfk to Hnl this April (I know it's not ewr but I imagine they're comparable). We booked the flight in August and when we upgraded to extra comfort seats in January I notice the price had gone under $800. So I didn't get the absolute lowest but I was happy with it since I was expecting it to be around $1000.

We flew from newark to the big island and it was right around that price. We had a layover though, so I would say that's a great deal!

Flight is not even half full yet.

FYI: Without insider access or possibly a paid subscription to a service like Expert Flyer, there's really no way to know how many seats are still available on a specific flight. You can't simply look at the seating chart on the airline's website. Not everyone selects seats when purchasing tickets. Additionally, wholesalers may have purchased large blocks of tickets. Typically, tickets from wholesalers won't get seating assignments until the customer checks in for the flight.

My Advice: If you see an airfare that sounds good, check out the airline's refund/hold policy. In most cases, the fare is refundable for the first 24 hours after purchase.

That is a good price, last year we paid around $900 round trip with 1 layover each way

Im assuming this is the morning flight on United? I have been watching flights for a while and it seems they average anywhere between $800-$1100 depending on what day of the week you are flying. For me personally, this is the only flight I would take out of Newark. I'd have to save a boat load of money to add in a layover (I'll be traveling with a 7 and 4 year old lol)

Funny thing is its often cheaper booking Toronto to HNL with a stopover in EWR than it is to book EWR to HNL for some reason. I just booked my flight yesterday, for a coach ticket it was around $660 round trip over Canadian Thanksgiving (October)

I just saw Boston to Hawaii for 679 RT for most of August to October.
