Hi, I'm new here. We will be down in FW 4/15- 4/20, tent camping, partial hookup site... We've camped before, so we won't be completely new, but I've never been camping in FL before. I will be bringing bug spray with us, but are the bugs that bad in April in FL???? Kind of nervous, as I will be a Ft. Wilderness newbie and I have read that there are quite a few tent campers at FW, but how prevalant are they? Kind of hoping we won't be the only tent campers around over Easter break.....

If you have booked a partial hookup site, then there will be LOTS of tent campers around you.

The comfort stations are wonderful!! My favorite is Loop 1500, very central in the campground and right across the way from the Meadows Trading Post, campfire, and bike barn.

Loop 2000 is kind of remote, but does tend to have larger sand pads if you have a large tent or several tents and need more room.

You will have electricity and water. Bring at least a 40 ft outdoor extension cord and a couple of power strips for anything electric you want to bring.

Bring an electric fan to run in the tent during the day while you are gone to combat the humidity. The evenings should be comfortable.

Waterproof your tent well and bring some type of "dining fly/screenhouse" to put in front of your tent as a mud room to remove shoes/raingear before entering your tent. Also a great place for chairs to just sit and relax outside your tent.

Bring a toiletry bag for each member of your family so that you can all take your showers at the same time.

Bring some cheap painters plastic to put under your regular groundcloth and dispose it at the end of the trip. The sand gets nasty and that keeps your regular groundcloth and the bottom of your tent clean.

Campfires and Tiki Torches are not allowed at the campsites, so if you are doing any of your cooking yourself, you will need to use a propane stove, an electric skillet, a crockpot, microwave, or charcoal in the grill provided.

There are garbage cans dispersed around the loop, but not necessarily one right in front of your campsite, so bring a few large garbage bags so you don't have to walk to the trashcan for every little piece of garbage.

Hope I've been helpful.

Welcome to the DiS. They do spray for mosquitos so they are really not much of a problem. You will have a great time. We will be there during that time as well, actually the 9-21. We will be on a full hook up site somewhere in the meadows area. You will find tenters in all areas of the fort, no need to worry that you will be alone.Enjoy!

Camped twice in August and never had a problem with bugs. They spray very early in the morrning. pixiedust:

Thank you guys for helping us. I guess knowing that this trip is getting closer is making me more and more nervous (but excited). We won't be doing any cooking (we got the dining plan) and plan on doing things like poptarts and juice in the mornings, so that will help us out a little bit.

As for the power strips... Where do you find the ones for outdoors? I've only found power strips that are for indoor use only. Thanks!

We use indoor/outdoor extension cords. We have the ones that have the 3 sockets on the end. About 5.00 at Walmart. This way anything exposed can go in your tent when rains. You'll love camping at FW. Hope the nervesness is really only excitement. :cheer2: princess:

I just use indoor power strips because they are inside my tent. I do use the outdoor extension cords though.

Oh, I just remembered, look in the garden section of Wal-Mart. They have some outdoor power trees with a stake that you can poke in the ground. Some even have timers if you want to do lights outside.
