Hello! First post here. Never been to FWCG.

We have reservations for 9/10/09 to 9/23/09 (13 nights). We also have the 10 day hopper plus water park pass. Just the two of us (me 47 and the wife 54) and 3 pug dogs. Also planning day trips to The Holy Land, Seaworld and movie studios. 34 ft. 5er and CTD.

So how do you choose a campground or do you just take what they give you when you show up?

Thinking about getting golf cart, any comments? If we bring bikes, do we really need a golf cart?

Once there, what are the chances of staying longer if we feel like it?

Any other suggestions for someone who has never been to Disney?

As far as staying longer it might be possible at that time of year but to be safe you might extend you reservation and then you could cancel the last days if you dont need them.

As to loop location, I think everybody likes something different in area. We like to be near the Meadows area so we can walk to store or pool. We have stayed all over and have found most are nice..
I think you are going to be surprised by FW as compared to others. Like everybody says none of the other campgrounds compare..

Make sure that they have your camper type, length, slides and such on your reservation. With 34' I don't think you'll have much of a problem, although I've heard of some really tight sights. I've not had a problem with my 32' 5er yet, I pull it with an F350 CC dually so it's a pretty long combo. You can also fax a request for a particular loop the week prior to your arrival, but there's never any guarantees.

Welcome to the camping board!!

Lots of great info on the FAQ sticky HERE

...including info on Golf Cart rules and options for renting off site for less $.

Really depends on the time of year you're going, but most of the year the Fort is jam packed. If you think you might stay longer, your best bet is to extend your reservation before you get there and cancel the extra days if you decide you don't need them.

Lots of threads that talk about what loops are "best" but it really depends on your priorities. Do you want to be in a more quiet location or close to the action? Also, what level of site did you reserve (preferred? premium?)

Obviously you'll need a pet loop, but if you can give us a little more info., folks here will be happy to give you some more specific recommendations.

All Preferred and Premium sites include water, electric, sewer and cable, so you'll be all set there.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only Preferred Pet loop left is 300.You can see the location on THIS MAP

It is fairly close to the marina/Settlement area (walking distance), and a very nice location to be in with dogs. You'll be close to the dog park and there is also a nice, grassy dog walk area along the canal behind this loop. We've camped in 300 several times and like it very much.

That isn't to say that they might not put you in another Preferred loop that isn't specifically designated as a "pet loop." Depending on how busy they are, they've been known to put pet people just about anywhere.

So how do you choose a campground or do you just take what they give you when you show up? You didn't mention if you booked a premium site or if your bringing pets. Different loops have offer different accomodations, so it's hard to give you advice on that one. For instance, I book a premiuim site and bring pets, so I "request" the 800 loop.

Thinking about getting golf cart, any comments? If we bring bikes, do we really need a golf cart?We don't rent a golf cart as we are both capable of riding our bikes and we use them actually as entertainment at the fort. You certainly won't need to do both- rent a golf cart and bring your bikes. ;)

Once there, what are the chances of staying longer if we feel like it? You have a good chance of extending your stay once at the fort based on when your booked as it's after Labor day and Sept is generally a slower month, but to gtd your spot you should always book in advance and cancel 6 days prior to the arrival day any dates you won't need or don't want.

Any other suggestions for someone who has never been to Disney?
Last suggestion... keep check this forum, we are a wealth of expertise and when you think of more questions just post them. You'll get plenty of responses! ;)

The last time we(2A, 3K) went, we had 8 park days and 13 nights. The campground has a lot to offer to relax as well as the rest of WDW without the attached ticket price. If you have non expiring tickets you are alright.

Out side the park, gatorland is awesome is great, BYOHD, bring our own hot dog and save a little $$$$, a 20 pack aught to do you.

IF you think you are going to get back, take your time. ALso plan your visits around extra magic hours....

We stay for 12-13 days at a time and we always get the 10 day pass because you never know when you're going to spend a half day or something at the parks. We usually don't use all the days but it only costs about $2 a day more for the extra days so why not? It's costing me a small fortune anyway so what's a couple of bucks more.:lmao:
