Hi snishath,
Welcome to the DISboards!
1. My own policy for domestic travel is to skip the insurance. I only purchase it for foreigh travel and only because both my parents and my DH's are elderly. If anything should happen while we are away, we would want to be able to return home as quickly as possible with no penalty. If we were in WDW, making a trip home would be less of a hassle.
2. Your package seems about right. Just pricing out all the options separately I get this:
6 nights @$77/night + 12.5% tax = $519.75
5-day MYW Hopper w/expiry x 2 = $470.74
6 nights dining option for 2 adults = $420
total = $1410.49
That means that you're not getting any discounts of any kind but you're not being overcharged, either.
3. The codes are put out by Disney and can be specific to Florida residents, AP holders, Disney VISA cardholders, Canadians or the general public. They can be for room-only or for a package but each code is specific to either one or the other. The codes usually cover specific vacation dates and have a limited number of rooms associated with them.
When codes are announced, you'll be able to tell by the flurry of activity on the resorts board. There's usually a little bit of buzz about them a few days before they come out. Some CRO CMs will spill the beans by telling potential guests that they've been told to do overtime or extra hours on specific dates. From recent postings, it looks like some codes will be announced this Tuesday, with some more coming out the following Tuesday. If history repeats itself, the codes will only be good for April 18 - July 4, 2005. You may have to wait quite a while for September codes.
Some people are also lucky enough to get a postcard either by email or snail mail. These postcards have user-specific PIN numbers that can be used to apply to a room or sometimes a package. They cannot be shared with another person. Ther is no rhyme or reason as to how Disney sends out these codes. I have received them for myself (but in my maiden name), my DS (who was 8 at the time) and for my mother (who has never lived at this address).
