First time tickets for my 6 and 4 year old.

We are planning our very first Disney trip as a family of 4. My wife and I have been in the past. We have 2 little girls - Ages 6 and 4. My wife and I have tickets from the past that we bought almost 8 years ago. So we're set, but the question now is what to buy for the kids.

I was speaking to an agent on the Disney chat today and I learned something that I didn't know. If you buy a 10 day ticket with Park Hopper and No Expiration for the kids (ages 3-9), the cost is $881.

But when they turn age 10, the cost goes up to $1384.

Now according to the Cast member I spoke with today, the idea is to stock up on this while the kids are Age 9 or less. Because when they turn 10, the ticket can be traded in at no cost to the adult ticket.

This is a savings of $500 or about $250 each.

The agent did not know what they were talking about. At the current time the difference in price between a child and adult ticket is no more than $18 (plus tax).

Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't make any sense. What's to stop someone from buying a bunch of children's tickets and simply trading them in for adult tickets to save money?

Ok appreciate that the stickey's are your friend - that stickey is a monster! I guess I'm trying to say that it looks like it's ok to upgrade your 9yr old, soon to be 10yr old to an adult pass. I guess what stops you from buying a bunch and upgrading is that there is some administration involved in doing the upgrade. I presume that they take your contact information and if they see you're doing a bunch, you likely would get shut down.

But yes, thanks for your input, you're right - looks like it's a minimal cost difference between adult and child - $18. How the heck did I get that differential of $250?

In Cheshire Figment's Post #8, Children and Adults, from "Everything About WDW Tickets," there is a distinction about childrens' tickets and being upgraded to adult tickets.

If the child's ticket has been partially used, then when the child becomes Disney-adult-age, the ticket will be changed to an adult ticket with all remaining assets, at no charge.

If the child's ticket has never been used, and the child is now Disney-adult-age, the difference in price must be paid. Since the ticket can't be used in a park turnstile first before upgrading to adult, which would bring it up to current gate price value, then the difference owed could be more than the difference from child-to-adult price. It would also include all price increases over the years since the ticket was purchased.
