First time soloer... talk me into or out of

DH, wonderful man that he is, surprised me with a solo trip at the end of February. Anyway, I have never traveled anywhere alone, and while I am really looking forward to this trip, I'm a little apprehensive too.

I will be doing at least 2 of the parks (hopefully 3, no time for all 4) and exploring the resorts. I'm comfortable with that part. I do have some plans for some things I'm not so sure about, so I thought I'd come here to all of you seasoned soloers.

I would like to do the following, so I'd like you to talk me into or out of... based on your experiences.

Jellyrolls - never been there
Tea @ the GF - never done that
La Nouba - another never done that

TS alone?? Spoodles and Boma so far are the only ones I might be doing. What about the castle for breakfast... alone! LOL at my age you'd think I could handle eating alone in public.

Jellyrolls is fun alone or with groups! Go for it!!! I've found the entertainers at Disney will make you feel fine if solo and they might tease you or involve you if you want.

The tea at GF sounds like great fun! I've never done it but want to. I've gone a few times to WDW solo and when at events like Tea (or club level) if I'm outgoing other families are also. You might ask for a table by a window so you can enjoy the scenery while you enjoy your tea and scones!

La Nouba should be a piece of cake! Most of it will have you in the dark watching with the others. Plus it's so visually stimulating you'll be entranced by what's going on.

I've never done the Castle for breakfast but I did do Chef Mickey's and the Glass restaurant in Magic Kingdom. I loved it! Again, most families & others are happy to converse with you. And the characters will come by and I usually ask one of the servers to take my picture with them.

I know it's a bit intimidating but think about your freedom in the happiest place on earth! I've gone alone and with family and I think I've enjoyed solo much better. You can stop and smell the roses or do the ride rush. You can go on tea cups twice or three times if you want. I like it because I'm a morning person and like to get there when the rope drops then take a break at 1 p.m. back at the resort.

It won't be perfect going solo but darn close! Have a wonderful time! Ely

I went solo for the 1st time in May and LOVED IT! I didn't do any clubs or TS meals so I can't tell you about that. I did all CS & snacking (LOTS of snacking) and never once felt out of place or uncomfortable - if anything I felt lucky! I never felt unsafe either. There is always someone else around at Disney. You will cover so much more ground going solo - and you can move much more quickly throughout the resorts & parks by yourself. You might be surprised that you can do all 4 parks in your timeframe. I was only there 4 days - and spent time at the pool the last day - no parks - and I had more than enough time to do all 4 in 3 days. I even hit Epcot twice - both times in the evening because I love Illuminations.

Hey Maude, have you ever dined at Bistro de Paris? I think it's a great place to go, especially if you're dining solo. It's very quiet and not that big so you won't feel out of place by yourself. The servers also pay a lot of attention to their diners so you'll never feel that alone.

I'm taking my first time WDW solo trip w/o DH (mine is a wonderful man too ) at the end of the month. Too bad you aren't going during my time because we could have met up .
I'm a little apprehensive because I haven't done a solo trip anywhere since before we were married...but everything I read suggests you feel quite safe at WDW alone. I'm staying at the BWI because it is close to Epcot and there are a lot of activities going on at night.
I'd like to know about the GF tea since DH would never want to try that (although he'd go along to be a good sport). Also I was interested in Flying Fish.
I posted on the resturant board and someone said FF has a counter overlooking the kitchen which sounds awesome!
So anyways, I'm tagging along on your thread to hopefully also get some good ideas.
Oh, and I think you should go for La Nouba. We did that many years ago and it was great. I don't see any weirdness about going solo to that .

That may have been me that replied to you on the other thread about Flying Fish! I just ate there last month, I went to WDW with my girlfriend -we left the kids (8 between us) and the husbands at home! We sat at the Chef's Bar which overlooks the kitchen - and the chefs interact with you. It was a lot of fun & I'd actually request to sit there again, as long as it was just 1-2 people. It's a bar, so you can't have a good conversation with others if you have a large group. I had the oak grilled or oak seared scallops - yum! Not cheap (I think they were over $40) but what the heck, you only live once!

I went to WDW solo in May & had the best time. I didn't even do a ton of rides. I had so much fun doing the 2 walking trails in AK (Pangani Forest Trail & Maharajah Jungle Trek) - my kids would hate that & rush me through it. I tried EE for the 1st time - single rider line is awesome! I ate what I wanted (tons of snacks), when I wanted. I stopped to smell the roses (literally) and people-watched.

You're staying in the best area for being there solo. When we stay in that area we love to head to Epcot in the evenings for Illuminations (yes more than once) and then leisurly stroll back to the resort on the Boardwalk. The street performers on the Boardwalk are incredible! It's nice to stpo & get coffee & a sweet treat at the BW Bakery at night too, they're open til 11pm.

I'm so jealous!!

I have been on a couple of solo trips now and love them! I normally eat a table service meal each day and I love my TS meals. I usually have a notebook or something so that I can update my notes or read during my meal.

I did the GF tea solo last month and had an awesome time.

Did my first solo trip last Jan and going again solo Jan 27th 2009 and can't wait. My last solo trip was one of my best vacations and I made new friends,one that I will even meet up with this coming trip. Don't hesitate, just do it.

Oh yes that was you thank you for the advice! I was really looking forward to the solo trip...and then I got a call from my dad last night asking if mom can join. Of course!!! Mom and I have never done a mother/daughter trip so I am very excited . I did make ressies for Flying Fish the night we get in. Mom hasnt been since our family trip in '96. She aslo has never stayed onsite...needless to say she is in for a swell time . I am storing away this solo advice because I may plan another trip in May depending on cost and time off.

I just returned from a partial solo trip.

I say do whatever you want solo. I’ll try almost anything solo; sometimes it’s either experience it alone or don’t experience it at all. I intended to go to Jellyrolls solo one night this past trip, but that didn’t work out. I saw La Nouba and loved it. Go!

I’ve eaten at the following restaurants solo:

50’s Prime Time Café
Flying Fish (and I was seated at a table and not the counter) <-- loved it.
Hollywood Brown Derby
Liberty Tree Tavern
Garden Grill
Beaches N’ Cream
Le Cellier
Cinderella Castle <--- Do it! Age is irrelevant!
Boma
Spoodles

Singles line is great. I rode Rock n’ Rollercoaster within 15 minutes or so at 7:00pm on New Years Eve via the singles line. Trust me, the stand-by line was no where near that short.

Have fun and you meet lots of new people when solo.

I made dining reservations at Rose & Crown, Mama Melrose and Yak & Yeti. I have some family and a good friend in FL, but no one knows yet whether they will join me.
