We are planning our trip and hoping to stay at *. If all goes well we will have our room. The kids are so very excited! I have questions regarding tickets and dining. If we do book through DVC, do we book our dining through the member or on our own? If we do it on our own, do we call Disney reservations? I read that we pay for our dining upon arrival (so I am assuming we request it through the club member) - but are we able to make reservations 6 months out? How do we get our tickets, we want a 10 day hopper? Is it as simple as going to the ticket window at Disney? We have always done the package deal and had everything ahead of time. This is new to us and I want to make sure I have everything in order and need to make sure I am not missing anything that will effect our trip. We always have purchased trip insurance - never needed it - but had it, is this something that can be purchased for rentals? I really do not foresee needing it, just a question I need to answer for the hubby.:confused3 Any information is appreciated! princess:

Didn't the person that you are renting from provide you with info about tickets, DME, and the DDP? They should have since they need to be involved with the DDP and DME.

You pay for the DDP when it is added to your travel plan. You can buy your tickets where ever you want.

Only the member can add DDP to the reservation and it must be paid for when it is added (in the past you could pay at check-in, but no longer).

You can book using the 180+10 for dining with your DVC reservation #. That's about the only thing you can do yourself with a rented reservation.

Tickets can be purchased anyway you want - from a 3rd party reseller, at the resort, at the ticket windows @ the parks, in advance from Disney's website, etc.

I don't know anything about insurance and how that would work for a renter.

For a DVC reservation, Dining Plan must be added by the member. It can be added up to 48 hours before check-in. It is a relatively new rule that full payment for the Dining Plan is required when it is added. When I rent my points out, I typically conference the renters in so s/he can give his/her credit card number to Member Services directly. However, making reservations at the restaurants can be done by the renter. When you make restaurant reservations, just mention you have added the Dining Plan. Restaurant reservations can be made 6 months out, or longer.

You can purchase your 10-day hopper ahead of time either through Disney or any third party vendor. Or you can add your 10-day hopper upon arrival at the front desk. Doing it this way the ticket and your room key can be the same card.

DVC offers trip insurance through a third party vendor. Ask for the trip insurance information from the member when making your reservation.

When you rent a DVC reservation, you are renting from the owner and it is a private transaction between you and them.

They remain the owner of the reservation and anything related to it needs to be done by them. Be sure you understand this as well as the cancellation policies as they are much different than when you book a package through Disney.

As far as DDP, as stated above, you have to ask the member to add that to the reservation and need to provide payment for it at that time. This is a new change as of Oct 2010 so be sure that you choose an owner who is willing to do it. In addition, if you need ME, that needs to be added by the owner as well.

We have been discussing points etc. I am still in the process of deciding - I am sure he will, I just needed to know for peace of mind, that I had the information correct. I appreciate the information. Now I can discuss in confidence with my hub and hopefully seal the deal! Thank you!
