I just found these message boards as I'm trying to plan another disney trip. I'm looking to go at the end of August??? Is this a bad idea? Thank you!

Depends entirely on you. Do you like higher temps? How do you handle crowds? There are a lot of factors. I think end of august would be a very hot, busy time of year to go. But you also have to factor in obstacles such as kids missing school, vacation entitlement at work, etc. So you may have no other choice but to go then. I don't think there is really any bad time to go to Disney World, but that can fluctuate based on personal taste and thresholds.

The end of August won't be too bad as far as crowds, at least that's how it's been in past years. The kids here go back to school in mid-August, and there's a week in the middle of August when Disney usually transitions the theme park hours from late crowded hours to closing earlier. The end of August will still be very hot weather though, 90 and humid every day. Labor day weekend will be the exception to the crowds though, those 3 days will be very crowded, followed by a quick drop-off the next day back to low crowds (I've been there during this a couple years- Labor day Monday was very crowded, and then Tuesday no crowds.)

I haven't been at the end of August, but I would think that the main "problem" would be heat, not crowds

Welcome! I used to go at the end of August all the time. If you don't mind big crowds and unbearable heat, then it's fine.

It's a good time of year to go. We went last year and it was fine. No crowds, just have to remember that is hurricane time. We were there during Frances, we had a great time. Also, it will rain in the afternoons at some point. Heat didn't bother us, if you get to warm just go inside to cool off. Have fun and welcome .

Am sure Aug will be fine, It is very hot in NY on the summer isn't it? so the heat shouldnt be a problem.

I am going July/Aug '05 and am very worried about the weather as we only have a about 3 days of sun in the UK and even then temps rarely get above 80ish!

We love the end of August. We have gone that week twice now and plan to go againin 2006. Yes it is hot, but I like it hot. The crowds are very managable. Between using EE and FPs Id estimate the longest line we waited in on either of those trips was about 10-15 minutes.
There is some talk in the news of our school system starting up earlier in the year and I am totally against it, for nothing else except we will lose out on having that week to go to WDW. IMO, its a great week to go.
