First time I've ever regretted a trip!

It sounds to me like they are more concerned with their interview schedule than with finding the right person for the job!

It sounds to me like they have already made their choice and are just going through the motions.

I figured that they liked all eight of the candidates they called in for an interview and know that they are very likely to find a good person within the 6 remaining people. They probably figured, rightly or not, that someone who puts their WDW job as more important than the interview, isn't someone that they are going to worry about.

You could be right, but I know a lot of companies in the UK have rules when it comes to filling a position and one of them is that they have to open it up to outside applicants, most of the time though they already know which internal applicant they want so the rest of the interview process is just for show.

I don't find this surprising at all and I certainly don't fault the company. In this job market they can afford to be very picky. There are so many qualified candidates for each job. They went with those that are hungriest for it. That is absolutely fine and good business.

I am glad you had a nice trip.

I teach college, and at my institution, we have hiring committees do job searches (I'm on one now). We end up having some fairly specific times that we have to do interviews because a number of people have to meet with the candidates, and it's hard to get everyone (that means all six committee members and two senior administrators) available on the same day. We'll end up interviewing 5-6 candidates over about a week period.

My field is very competitive (167 applicants for our currently advertised position); if you can't come in when we offer an interview, we go down the list to the next ranked candidate.

That doesn't mean we are inflexible or unreasonable, but it does mean that candidates have to be available when we want them to be.

I'm sorry for the OP, and I hope it works out for you.

She explained to me that they want to do all the interviews in one day (and at least by the end of the same week) because they have to run background checks and need them all to come back around the same date since they take 8-10 days to clear, so that's why they couldn't interview me after I return from Disney. Makes sense, and it does help to have the process explained to me, but I'm still thinking grrrrrr to myself. The only speck of light on the situation is that she said if the interview process does not got to everyone's satisfaction, and they have to do another round of interviews, then they would of course invite me in. So thanks everyone for the good wishes, and thanks for no flames.

(Oh, and I became a Seasonal CM after spending a year working at WDW on the College Program! I know there's other ways to become a Seasonal CM though. It's a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend it! :thumbsup2)

If you already work for the company, wouldn't you already have a background check on file? So, this sounds like a lame excuse fto me.

I, truly understand your disappointment and need to just vent. Hopefully, you will another opportunity for advancement in the future. However, if I would have been in your position, I would have rescheduled the vacation if I had too since it is just a part time job without health benefits. In better economic times, maybe not, but in today's society - yes, I would have cancelled the vacation and earned the poor mark at Disney. It would have been one mark at Disney - a part-time job you keep for the enjoyment of it and the small benefits not your year round job which pays your daily bills.

It sounds to me like they have already made their choice and are just going through the motions.

Yes, this sounds to me a very valid reason.

I agree! Many companies here in the US have the same practice and this sounds like it might be one of those cases.

I think this is very true too. If the HR department has several equally qualifiyng candidates, then they need something to help them make the final decision. In this case, the candidate's efforts to attend the scheduled interview. In times like this, the candidate is competing against so many people and the smallest of things can reward another candidate with the job. This is a fact of life that so many people need to understand in economic times where people are losing jobs.

Sounds like they would not have been a good company to work for ayway. I worked for a company like that for 3 years and they nearly sucked the life out of me. I was so glad when I got fired...that is too funny...happy to be fired! LOLOL!! :cool1: Forget about this bad epereince and have fun on your trip. It is probably a blessing in disguise.

She already works for the company.

I am an H.R. Manger, and based strictly on what you've shared with us, I find their behavior inflexible and unprofessional.

What if a candidate had major surjery scheduled for that day -- does that make her unqualified? No.

What if a candidate's wife was having a baby that day -- does that make him unqualified? No.

It seems that one of their hiring criteria is: is the candidate available on one specific date? How does that tell them anything about the candidate or his/her ability to do this job? It does not.

Can they get away with it? Of course, simply because of the number of people looking for work these days. But it does not contribute to following the best process to find the best person for the job, and that in itself should be their goal.

Don't know if this will help but at my age I LISTEN to inner voice. When I was young I did not and boy was life tough. If you think you shouldn't go Disney will be there after all. If you are not going to enjoy the trip trust me stay home.

They had 350 applications. There isn't any reason to wait on interviews. Nothing personal in that at all, imo. The fact that someone was ill makes no difference. There is always a time schedule, and it sounds as though the OP hasn't blown all of her hope on a better position. It sounds as though the company is rather decent about it. It stinks for the OP, but it is her choice so that she can keep a second job. Her choices affected the situation just like their did.

Yep it is a whole different world out there right now. Who ever is hiring is calling the shots and with 350 people they don't have to work with anyone. I know several people including my DH who have actually had the whole round of interviews for a job and they want to hire them but then corporate gets cold feet about hiring anyone and everything is put on hold. Considering the scarcity of jobs out there with benefits I would have rather had a tiny glitch on my "fun" job than loose a job with benefits. In this atmosphere be very happy they are still considering you for anything.

UGH...I'm hoping it all works out for you!!! Pixie dust coming your way.
