Looks like there is a new housing stimulus package that will offer a $7,500 tax credit for new home buyers. Certainly something to look into if you will be purchasing your first home in the near future.

NJ also has a 1st time homebuyers program...If you can combine the two, it will be a great time for a 1st timer to buy. The NJ program gives you $$ towards your down payment and closing costs, as long as you remain in the house for a specified period of time...it's been great for several of my customers!

We are looking at buying a home in six months. This new program is great but people should definately understand that the money has to be paid back at $500 per year for the next 15 years or when you sell your home. It is an interest free loan which is great but still a loan.

Yes, that is the case according to an article I read. I haven't reviewed the legislation. I am very interested b/c DH and I are looking for our first home now. Many articles on this don't mention it, but it must be paid back over 15 years or when the house is sold.

My husband is from Carrick in Pittsburgh. At one point we were looking at houses in Brentwood and Mount Lebanon. I love the stain glass windows in that area. I would almost base a home purchase on the stain glass.
