First time flying, and with a toddler what I need to know

If they're to entertain the baby, I'd wonder if the intent is to use them without earphones - I don't know if that's allowed. I have been on planes where there were people who were playing movies at full volume and not wearing earphones. Annoying, but it doesn't happen enough for me to remember if a flight attendant would say you need earphones.

This past Dec the family across the aisle from me were told they had to use earphones. The noise from the cartoon they were watching would have been preferable to the screaming fit their toddler threw when her movie had to be cut off. I don't think anyone complained, the FA just heard it as she was walking by and told them earphones were required.

Well, this is truly the parent's fault! They "assumed" that "it's OK if our child disturbs the plane with her movie" had they used some common sense they never would have STARTED the movie.
